Last Full Show

Heartland of Ermita, 11 pm

---

I was about to go to sleep this evening when I got a text message from you.

"I'm drinking again. shucks..."

Surrendering the night to rest, you suddenly awakened my senses. We met in an online forum last week. Like El Tigre, you used to hang out in the fitness threads on that website. One morning, I found you wandering in the non-straight threads and your sudden change of color encouraged me to send you a private message.

The pleasant message exchanges lead to deeper conversations until one evening we traded numbers. There is now mutual companionship between us and if this friendship breaks all norms of online relationships, it may spill over and bloom into a romantic engagement.

Maybe this chance led me to get up, take a shower and make an excuse to leave home after your proposal to have a drink - if and ever your conference ends early tonight.

"Last time daw this meeting ended at 3am fyi. Nyahahahaha!"

Wahahahaha!" I replied.

I do not know what's gotten into me, but once again, I'm placing all hopes that you're worth the chase. This is what's sad about being single. Every person you meet, every being who fits your ideal suddenly becomes your prospect. I guess now, our friendship borders between worlds and now that you have opened the doors for a more direct contact,

I don't know how our story will gonna end.

Truth be told: If ever we never get to meet tonight, I have two fall-back options to retreat to. As I waited for confirmation that you're still open for a meet-up I sent beacons to some encantos to cover me when things fail. If they decide not to answer my plea, Malate will become my port of call.

I do not know how things will end tonight,

but I do hope that by tomorrow morning, I will wake up knowing a promising future will greet me as I start my day again.

Buff Daddy Interludes Four: Act Of Liberation (Repost)

February 13, 2006

My body feels like exploding.

Two hours of heavy work-out took its toll on my unprepared muscles. As it turned out, the trainer who used to be the favorite of everyone during the last time I was in the gym has left. In his place was a new instructor, young and quite aloof to new members like me.

I thought that since it was my first day, I would just do some little workout. But instead, the trainer dropped the bomb by asking me to do a 30 minute cardio exercise on the Elliptical Machine. After I was done with my cardio, we proceeded to the free-weights area. God knows lifting the 10 pound barbell would be too much, but the trainer insisted, so there I was killing myself doing 8 rep, 2 set bench presses.

I would have called it quits on the first day. The back-breaking activity was too much. But since discipline and endurance was required for me to succeed, I just told myself to hold the line and follow what the trainer instructed.

All for the love of flying.

---

The last time I went to the gym, I left with some degree of control over my body. Never in two years after I have dumped dark rooms for a stable relationship was I able to do some complex body twisting on the dance floor again.

During a brief time, my confidence surged from near zero, to those levels I had before breaking up with my first lover.

Too bad, my work-out lost momentum after I felt changes. My bestfriend Roy, was another factor. We were both into bodybuilding then, but when he ceased lifting weights because of health reasons, I started becoming lazy and decided to stop as well.

---

It's already past two hours after arriving home. The body pain and the muscle soreness will cripple me when I wake up tomorrow morning. Still, I'm not sure whether my decision to go full swing to do a fitness activity would produce results or not... I'm not even sure if I would succeed this time or it may become a flop once again.

But one thing is sure. I would prove to that loser who once flayed insults over a drinking session in Angeles City that my bulging tummy was hopeless and I'm grounded to become obese for life, that change is possible. In eight months I would make sure that I would have some major improvements on my body.

Until then. I would stay quiet. I'm even thinking whether it would be good idea to put some distance away from my friends so that my developments... would just be for my eyes alone.

And no matter how many times it would take before I become a master of my own body. I would never stop or surrender.

For I am beginning to get tired hiding behind my own shadow.

And I am getting weary thinking about if I would last a decade with the abuses I'm throwing at my deteriorating body.

Lastly, I feel ashamed staring at some other toned and ripped torsos when I can develop mine.

I guess, it's time to claim my own place.

After all, whatever happens, It's my body and my health that counts.

Image taken last April 10, 2007, a few weeks before resuming my fitness activity at a new gym in Shaw Boulevard. In my three-year stint as a bodybuilder, my workout efforts suffered when I stopped for four months after reaching the plateau at my first gym. I felt the need for change and while waiting for Eclipse to open, I became complacent with my appetite control.

This was the result. 10 pound short and I would be back at square one.

On the 19th, I will show the results two years after.

Endings Of A New Kind

---

bum sister doing nothing to find a new job.

half-brother suffering from an old and fatal illness.

family business still in peril (and on the verge of collapsing).

how to let a tiny enterprise take off.

---

Photos taken from inside the Pacific Plaza Towers in Fort Bonifacio. Three weeks ago, a classmate from the Masters offered her place to have our second to the last essay writing workshop.

Describing her home as elegant is an understatement. My eyes have never cast its gaze to such wondrous opulence like what I've seen around me: Wooden carvings of Buddha from Indochina; silver dining set brought from London; fine linen draping over her rounded glass dining table and bottles and bottles of red and white wine from around the world stacked in her minibar. Never will I forget the huge forest mural clinging against the wall across from where I sat; and her state-of-the-art flat screen TV whose dimensions rival those of my double-size bed.

Lucky I am to be given such opportunity, for I know, it may never happen again.

And in times my reverie affords me a time for remembering, it will be the same memory I will keep playing over and over in my head in hopes that someday,

These still images wills me to claim them for myself.

Somewhere Over The Shores Of Lucid Bay

5:23 AM

Got out of bed and dragged my legs to my mother's quarters. The last time I remembered before falling asleep was the door was locked and she was taking an early-morning warm bath in her small, rose-tiled bathroom. Mom was already sprawled comfortably on the bed and waiting to fall asleep when I went in to check her out.

Mom: Nakatulog ka na?

Me: Huh?

Me: Ah oo, nakatulog na. Ikaw?

Mom: Hindi pa, simula nung nagising ako kanina (I presume she had three hours of sleep after arriving home last night.)

Me: Tulog ka na mama. Gym na ako.

Mom: Maaga pa ah...

Me: Ayos yun, para mamaya maaga rin ako makakauwi. Ready lang ako.

I left her room to go down to the kitchen. Hunger was assaulting my tummy and I just remembered the maid mentioned last night that there's a half-slice carrot bread inside the fridge. As I was about to step my foot on the first flight of stairs, a tiny voice stalled my legs for I heard someone calling my name. It was a mere whimper but I knew where it was coming from?

I headed back to the master's bedroom.

Me: Bakit mo ako tinawag?

There was a long pause after my question.

Mom: Mag-gygym ka na talaga?

Me: Sana... bakit?

Mom: Maiiwan na ako mag-isa niyan.

There and then I understood what mom meant. It's been a lonely, sleepless night with only me and her inside the house. Utol was elsewhere busying herself with activities that any practical person would frown. Approaching mom. I tucked her inside the blanket, planted a kiss on her cheek and left the room to go downstairs.

My carrot bread is waiting.

Mom's words will always ring a tune to my heart. I will do my steel-bar lifting after my shift is over.

Elements Of The Darkstar

Tonight, we shall lift the steely curtains of repression to reveal the naughtier side of me.

It's been several days since I noticed how the kick of mischievousness has loosened my grip with decorum. For three consecutive nights, the pricey self pleasures of phone sex were my safety harness against my conscious attempts to turn into a promiscuous boy. For those of you who were not yet my readers when the Mugenblue-Odinhood Pact was ratified, the treaty with a fellow blogger serves as my abstinence from all the hook-up sites that abound. I can be pretty nasty out there, (considering how expert I've become in the art of baiting everyone thanks to my previous presence in those seedy cyber-foxholes.) and there is no limit to what I can do now that no one holds me back.

A few days ago, another pact has been formalized. This time, the ambiguous agreement hopes to kill any attachments that may form when someone gets close to winning my affection. It's a friendly reminder to never let feelings run, for I may hurt others and myself in the process. Now I see trouble coming, because the same Shuriken Pact can be exploited if and ever I pursue the path towards the pleasures of the flesh.

I'm sure you know what I mean.

The Darkstar sums up the aggressive, dominant and self-pleasing side of my personality. It is driven by confidence and sometimes, the callings of lust fuels its desire to take control of my actions. It used to have a more malevolent reincarnation by the name of Kitsune. Kitsune can sense it's straight-acting prey by simply looking at a guy's body movements. He plays with men without any regard for any emotional connection that may come after the intimacy is done. Fortunately, I stopped short of wielding too much exposure in the Bath Houses and the online hook-up scene when my cruel game has become intolerable.

I fear for the mess my actions might create.

Therefore, the entity disappeared as abruptly as it was created.

So what are the things the Darkstar is capable of doing? I will give you an example of how he engages equally game guys in a conversation. You may consider the exchanges below as something fictional - if you have already engaged me in a real-time sms friendly chat.

---

Darkstar: Anong gawa mo dude?

Prey001: Heto busy sa trabaho. Ikaw?

Darkstar: Petiks sa work.

Prey001: Mwah!

Darkstar: Nice, kaya kita gustong ka-text eh. Game ka sa banat ko.

Prey001: Miss you.

Darkstar: Tanginamo, pag-nag meet tayo, itotorrid kita.

Okay, I'll stop there. I could be kinkier considering how bareback porn - where the actors really shoot their load inside their partner's hole - gives me a boner.

Of course there are limitations when it comes to teasing and doing the things I say in a game of provocation. I am still bound by responsibilities, which I've learned from reading people's thoughts here and elsewhere. Bottom line is, I need to constantly check (and suppress) my carnal leanings for I know that after it's done comes the long period of grieving.

For my other sides have learned that nothing fulfilling comes after a mind-blowing casual sexual encounter.

Even if it's a very intimate threesome with two very masculine top guys, which will forever remain my ultimate but very elusive sextrip.

So there goes my demons running wild within the confines of Mugenblog. As the saying goes, better express one's deadly thoughts than doing it with a stranger, for what has happened can never be undone. March has always been the month of beginnings and the month of conclusions for me.

Whatever path I take must still lead to something profound and constructive.

And though there are times I let go of my inhibitions - like I am doing for this entry, it is my hope that when the real kinkiness of Darkstar comes in, it will be exercised and performed with boundless lust and so full of love with someone who is equally creative, and mightily cunning and twice as aggressive as my potentials reveal.

I am willing to wait for him to come.

Hubby003: Ahhh malapit na ako hon!!

Mugen: Ako rin puputok na. Shit galing mo talaga.

Hubby003: Saan ko ipuputok?

Mugen: Sa loob. Gawa tayo ng baby.

Hubby003: Ulol. Hahaha.

Mugen: Gusto ko lalaki. Para puwede ko sunduin sa school. Tapos makikipag-sapakan ako sa tatay ng bully. Daddy rin ako ah!

Hubby003: Hahaha...

Mugen Bilisan mo ahhh!

Hubby003: Heto na... Heto na... Kiss nga kita.

Mugen: Fuck, im cumming. Sabay tayo. Mmmmm..

Hubby003: Here it goes!!! Shit! Shit! Shit!

---

"It all began with a tight hug. I was experiencing some violent chills and he felt that my whole body was burning. He rose up and told me to roll to the other side of the bed. He then he returned to the bed and placed himself between me and the wheezing electric fan.

I told him that I am alright. The fever will soon dissipate and he should just sleep instead of worrying about me. But he was stubborn and restless; he rose up, went outside the room and then after a few minutes, returned with a huge mug of water.

"Drink this," he said.

Unable to stand up, he assisted me by placing his hand on my back and then gently pulling me up. I drank only a tiny portion of the liquid since my throat hurts. As I coughed badly, the rain started to pour outside. The skies were as dark as coal but his presence made me feel that despite the bad weather and the foul illness,

Everything was sunny and clear around me.

He then told me to lie down.

A few seconds later, he dabs a finger-full of Vicks Vaporub and rubs it on my aching back. His hands begin to move gently, squeezing every muscle sore that I feel. He is like a seasoned masseur, except that he is never a stranger. From my back, he worked his way towards my hips, then on my shoulders, my chest and my biceps until his soft hands clasped my hands and pulled my fingers until it pops. Occasionally he would kiss a part of my body, as if leaving assured murmurs on that part of the skin he kissed that everything will be alright.

When his massage has finished. I held his hand and told him that of all the parts of my body he squeezed, he missed one part that sought his massage most:

My front..."

A Massage To Remember

---

Perhaps, it is his beaming smile consoling me after we got into our little fights, or his simple views in life that keeps me attached to him. Probably it is in the way he remembers to send me sweet nothings, when my thoughts are focused elsewhere. Maybe it is in the contrast of our personality - he, being more extrovert towards the people around him and I, being more reserved and exclusive, even in the most familiar of crowds around me. We don't talk that much about our lives, but our connection is always open throughout the day. We don't share the music we play on the mp3 player, yet the TV channels we watched together could keep us in bed the entire day. On the sides, we are both loners. He may have a lot of people around him, but he never considers anyone his confidants - except me perhaps. I, on the other hand keeps all the trivial matters away from him, except the subtle things that would make us strong perhaps. He knows what weakens me and what keeps me strong, even if he is not aware of it. He loves singing pop songs in a karaoke bar while I cringe when hearing his music and wishes to be some place else when beside him at the same bar. He loves hanging out in the malls for hours, while the mere presence of bargains keeps me away from boutiques because of the material temptations it brings. If we have something we agree about, it's our common cable channel - Discovery Channel and National Geographic. We could stay all day in bed doing our "intimate" sports while the TV is tuned in to those channels. He would say "I love you" when I least expect it, and often in contrast, ignore me completely when I desperately needed his attention most. But it's alright, I am beginning to understand his way of thinking - that he doesn't entertain distractions the way I would like to be distracted all the time. I may have hidden resentment towards him, but his acts of sweetness and his initiative to make up first the moment his anger has subsided prevents me from gravitating towards complete hatred. I think our relationship is relatively odd compared to others, but it is that oddness that keeps us together. It may not be based on conversations or openness but because of the deep, unspoken ties that bind us together. Things still work out - and will still work out as long as he would not call the first shots of separation. You see, I never run away from relationships. My guilt and conscience would not let me do so. I am tested for patience and understanding. For reasons only known to him, he provides me with enough space to enjoy my own identity. Despite his complains about my tendency to dominate him most of the time, still he acknowledges my intervention over his personal affairs. After all, I end up being the problem solver when things fuck up. He may not be my ideal partner at the beginning. But with time and familiarity, I learned how to accept him the was he is and the way he will be. After all, we are involved in each other lives in one way or the other, that eventually such involvement lead to an understanding that beneath our own individual lives, we have always been tied as one.

I can see the worry on my mom's face when he saw phanks, especially when she found out that Phanks brought a lot of things with him.

But being a good host that we are, she just ignored her thoughts. Besides, my sister would be gone for two weeks so its easy to make an excuse that Phanks would be staying in to keep us company.

However, for some reasons, my buddy told my mom that he just had a trangkaso, which worried my mom even more. That evening mother asked me not to let phanks sleep on my bed.
Which of course, I ignored.

For two days, Phanks never left my room except to eat or go to the bathroom. But he assured me that after he regain his strength he would go back to school.

The maids were quite nice to him as well. They never complained whenever phanks wore my shirt or tops, or whether he wore my shorts or used my towel. While at work, I called home to check whether my guest have eaten his breakfast or he skipped it out of shyness.

He became part of the house and everyone became used to him.

iba.

Chronicles Of El Tigre (Episode Two)

Pairings

Imagine yourself being invited to a Videoke Party. There are nine of you in the group and one turns out to be the odd one out. Looking around, you see all of them inside the room - including the outcast. Everyone seems to be paired with someone and you feel a little pity to the one who was left out. You wondered how come he has no partner, when he can easily get one the moment he steps inside his favorite watering spots. He's not that bad looking either to be ignored by someone. Perhaps it was his miscalculation that brought him to this most unfortunate situation. Whatever his reasons are, you just feel guilty that you could not keep him company.

It all began a few days earlier. The newest couple in the group organized a get-together. I don't know, perhaps they just wanted to be seen and brag at how they ended up being together. You know how new couples are. Anyway, everyone was invited, including one of their friends who has a wife and kids, and still chooses to find another guy to keep him company. Funny. The guy he is with right now, which we will call Piolo for this entry was once involved with one of the guys belonging to the new couple.

Anyway, I do not know how Piolo and this guy who is married came to be. What I do know is that Piolo loves to flirt around and the guys in the group find him very attractive. I find him too effeminate for my taste, so I let him be. I just don't want him near my periphery.

Expecting that there will be pairings during the gathering, the leader asked the odd-one-out if he could be assured of his presence. You see, this odd guy has this habit of committing to an activity only at the last minute. He avoids being expected. Understanding the leader's situation, he confirmed his presence without double-checking his activities the day he was needed. However, as a suggestion, he told the Pinuno to bring someone from his legion of thread watchers. It's high time to reward the most loyal subject of his little empire.

Past 7 in the evening the following day, they met somewhere in Cubao. The leader followed the odd guy's suggestion and brought along a kid from the thread. His name was Ardent, a 19 year-old guy who's just new in the non-straight scene. The leader assured him of protection from those who might prey on his charm and innocence. His core members, after all, have this tendency to make karir to those the leader introduces to the group.

An hour later they all showed up in front of Music 21 in Timog Avenue. They were in full force - The new couple, the leader and his new apprentice, and the married guy and Piolo. The pairings made the odd guy feel awkward so he reverted back to his soloflight/free-spirit mode. I guess things would have been easier if he was fine being with the married guy and his boylet. Since they had only met twice and had a history of revulsion toward one another, he felt almost an outsider.

Barrels of draft beer kept coming and going inside their small room. Food was everywhere but since the Odd guy had prematurely binged in a nearby fastfood restaurant earlier, hunger was never his concern. Later that night, another pair decided to join the group leaving the odd guy more unease with the people around him. Good thing the new pair were never couples - they were friends, perhaps with benefits. As song after song was being sung in the videoke, the more he fills his glass with beer. In the end, he just surrendered to the truth that he was alone.

I cannot deny that at that moment he was seeking any semblance of belongingness. He is not tough as most people would think. At the back of his head, probably he was cursing himself for not keeping a squad of boylets to choose from and tag along on occasions like this. He might have remembered another party, in another group, where there was literally a mad rush among the attendees to find someone to show at the event. Good thing, the odd guy was taken so despite showing up alone in the party, he can always tell his partner to pick him up.

This time, things were different.

Halfway through his stay at the videoke night, I noticed him staring at his phone more than the people around him. He was busy texting someone - perhaps his supposed to be pair for the night. I cannot really fathom what his thoughts were, but I'm sure he would have invited his new cyberfriend if it was appropriate to do so.

At past midnight, fates have overturned the relationship between the pairs. Drunk to the point of being a little rowdy, everyone was casting their eyes toward the pair of another. The married guy found one of the guys who arrived later a little more interesting than his boylet. His boylet, Piolo, was planning to make a move towards Ardent who sat quietly beside the leader. I would learn from the leader that Piolo actually asked Ardent if he could stay in his place the next morning. Pinuno was busy crooning to senti songs, which some of us never heard before. He seems contented finding his new junior. As for the couple who organized the gathering, they ended up doing a duet of the cheesiest love songs they could find in the song list. Days later, one of the couple would sought our help to look after his beloved while he resumes his projects out of the city.

Looking around, I found the odd guy staring at the mirror

whose eyes' reflection stared back at me.

He left early that night telling everyone that he's needed elsewhere. Since everyone felt how out of place he was, he was able to leave without much protestations.

I learned the following day that he chilled in a coffee shop somewhere in Katipunan, where after a half hour of waiting, found himself sliding in the front seat of a red Mazda 3 sportscar.

He might have endured an evening being the odd one out, but the night ended with him, having a pair of his own.

---

His name is Roi. He is one of the first non-straight men I've met many years ago. We have known each other inside-out, that despite our masculine appearance toward the people around us, we are comfortable speaking in lingo to express our endearment for one another. For eight years, I've known how his relationships went. Most of them lasted for months, if not for weeks, and what is unique about his case is that he often breaks up with his partner long before we get to meet him ourselves.

Last November, we were able to see each other after months of no communication. He told me that he met this guy and he found him very interesting (and attractive as well). A month later, he told me through text message that they were seriously dating, and that he is planning to enter a relationship with him. I encouraged him to pursue the guy and wished him well.

They became a couple a few days before Christmas. Roi, due to his aversion for things that will put him in a shaky position, confided all his anxieties to me. I was open to giving him insights as to how to manage his relationship, but my friend is a proud person. He would never seek anyone's help unless he is out of options. Instead of discussing the more intimate matters of his new relationship, he sought my ideas as to what gift he would give to his new boyfriend or the cake he would buy to his lover's mother. That's what best friends are for.

Silence fell after New Year and it could go on until he makes his presence felt. However, since I was extremely restless this afternoon, I thought of checking him out for a change. So there was our conversation and what bothered me is his worries about his partner.

I found my exes better-looking than me. I may have insecurities about the way I looked and for a time, I feared that they will leave me for someone more gwapo or more payat than me. I was obese then. However, I knew that fears would never lead me into anything constructive. What I did was to push myself to give more attention, love and affection towards my exes. In both cases my efforts paid off. When I broke up with them, they realized what was lost.

My best friend is good-looking. I never doubted him when he tells me that he is dating someone who drives an SUV, or he met this hunky guy who would ask him to stay in his posh loft at the Fort for as long as he wants. In the years we grew up together, I tried to emulate him - including his ways and values - but at the end, I was left using my own tricks to wade across the world we both live. He will always be superior to me.

What disturbed me the most during our chat, was how the looks of his partner and the issues of fidelity made him feel so threatened that he wasn't able to see their potentials as lifetime companions. What he implied in his text was he sees only impermanence in relationships: That everything might break down with just a snap of one's finger and that he was willing to bolt out, rather than be the one being left behind.

I sat for around thirty minutes in one of the steps of Jollibee just to assure him that everything will be fine. What he needs is to give their relationship a little more time to mature. I would have told him to love without any reservations. However, remembering how he was able to meet and bed the men of my dreams, his secret was to play someone hard to get.

Putting myself in his shoes, I am most certain to face the same kind of dilemma once I do a full-throttle and seriously consider entering a relationship with a new guy. If someone as proud and good-looking as him would claim to be the "Queen of Insecurity", what more to someone as mediocre as me?

Confused and distraught at how his case made me a little elusive about relationships, I stood up, picked up my bag and walked towards the terminal to find the jeep that would take me home. I scuttled my plans of watching Benjamin Button alone, or meeting a friend for a coffee or light dinner. I also suppressed all the temptations to have an appointment with Kitsune somewhere in FB Harrison. It's been a year since we last met, and the unbearably cold weather forces me to see him and discuss my ways in the future.

There's no point in seeking... when there is nothing really to find out.

So I arrived home a little dissapointed.

But peace stays with me.

Love Birds

[21:12] Heartreb: eh ayun..
[21:12] Heartreb: ang lamig ngayon
[21:14] Mugen: hehe
[21:14] Mugen: sabihan mo [si nililigawan mo]
[21:14] Mugen: "ang lamig ngayon, sana ka-hug kita."
[21:14] Mugen: kikiligin yan
[21:14] Heartreb: hahaha
[21:16] Heartreb: [insert smiley face here]
[21:16] Mugen: nasabi mo na
[21:16] Mugen: online siya
[21:16] Mugen: hehehe
[21:17] Heartreb: hindi
[21:17] Heartreb: yoko nga
[21:17] Heartreb: hehehe
[21:17] Mugen: gusto mo ako magsabi
[21:17] Heartreb: kausap mo ba?
[21:17] Mugen: imamack ko siya
[21:17] Heartreb: wag na
[21:17] Mugen: sabihin ko na
[21:17] Mugen: hehehehehe

O Sabel this must be love!

It will be their moment at labas ako sa usapang iyon.

[21:47] Heartreb: hmmm...
[21:47] Heartreb: senti
[21:47] Mugen: hug ka daw ni
[21:47] Heartreb: hahaha
[21:47] Mugen: Bato
[21:47] Heartreb: Heartreb has buzzed you!
[21:47] Heartreb: wushu
[21:48] Mugen: [insert smiley face here]

***copy pasted from previous conversation

[21:56] Mugen: don't hesitate to ask me questions
[21:56] Mugen: how to make him fall for you.
[21:56] Mugen: ipapasa ko lahat ng alam ko.

Sana magkatuluyan sila.

So close to reaching
That famous happy end.
Almost believing
This one's not pretend
Now you're beside me

We are

The Hip Hugger

Just maybe, at a very young age, mother taught us to be very touchy with those who mean to us. We grew up learning that assurances come from a tight hug or a snuggle from those we love. An ex once lamented on an SMS message that he enjoyed sleeping beside me because he felt secured whenever my arm was on his waist. He was right, for when I sleep at night, the same arms which are elusive to body contact during the day would be clutching something or I may never find the rest my body desires.

It would be another night - cuddle-less, restless, and longing for some warm soft body I would wrap my arms around as I fall into deep slumber. The pillow could offer a temporary relief, but who finds sincere pleasure in something that can never return the affection you are willing to give?

Hook-ups abound and I could trade a chance to get laid for one precious hug. But really, would it fill my desire knowing that it was born out of lust?

Maybe I'm just drunk so these thoughts run amok inside my head.

When I return to the gym later, I will make sure to seek the best exercise possible to firm my arms. The body can do on it's own with the seemingly endless deadlifts, benchpresses military presses and squats to sculpt it according to its specifications. However, the goal now is to pack-up as much bulk to that body part that expresses my affection towards someone.

Because the next time my arms cuddle the person it truly feels; the next time I'd get to invite a living being to sleep over and lie beside me in bed, I will make sure it's not just intimacy or lust it will show.

My arms will subtly reveal that it can lay down every part of its muscle; every firmness that it has

To the one, who might have already snatched my heart.

---

Mom told me this morning that Phanks showed up late last night. He gave away company give-aways for my mom and my sister to use.

Good thing I wasn't around. Good thing, I'm always out of the house.

For it would upset me more to see him, knowing we're both trying to pull ourselves out of the rut.

Monthsary | Tannis

As difficult it is to accept, trends reveal that singlehood is a state I do not last very long. The findings can be traced to a habit of faithfully sticking to the first person who gets me. If you find the word "get" a little confusing, think of it this way: It is not words that win me over. Physical affection remains the barometer that would make my heart beat.

Given this often tragic habit of assuming things without any formalities, misunderstandings often occur. Fortunately, clarity is never my element. I could be as sweet and affectionate to a person without being certain it would lead to a commitment. I admit, it gets painful when things don't work out. However, acceptance is easy when you know that love can never be forced to someone. Moving on is necessary, no matter how aching the process of detachment is.

The day after I let Tannis sleep on my bed, things have become rosy between the two of us. He would inform me of the most trivial things he would do - such as the meals he would eat during his breaks, or the exact time he leaves for work. I respond to his text messages with much enthusiasm but rarely do our exchanges lead to conversation.

He is sweet beyond words and for his efforts, I tried to become as accommodating as my emotions would permit. I learned from our first engagements that there is hesitation in me - that I would never be complete had he become my new partner. There is something in Tannis that is lacking and I am afraid that I might look for it on others who would come after him.

However, after his unexpected return last Christmas Eve, I tried to overlook his shortcomings and instead focused my attention to learning his essential traits. He said he was monogamous in his past relationships and it strongly appealed to me. He is a self-made man, who now claims to be a manager in a retail store that sells high-end clothes. His story reminded me of Phanks and what he might become five years from now. This didn't bother me unlike during our first run because Tannis had, for most occasions had given me this impression of financial stability that I never felt from those I was willing to take seriously before him.

Two days after Christmas, Tannis called asking if I was free that evening. I was about to leave the gym and since I had nothing else to do, I decided to meet him to get close and personal. As he ate his fast-food dinner in Wendy's Shangri-La, I listened intently to all his stories. He might not be aware of it, but I was keenly observing everything about him - from the way he described his family, to the responsibilities he do at work. I noted down all his strong points and tried, my very best, to compromise the things that he lacked. He rarely asked anything about me, so during the whole time we were together, I said little that would catch his fancy. I know, one would get tempted to say that I'm ruthless in judging his character while I, allowed a trickle of information about me to drop on him. The reason for the obvious one-way exchange is simple: We never really see each other eye to eye.

Despite this challenge, I never allowed our differences to dominate our first hang-out. So we went to his apartment hoping that I could get to know him more. Experience tells that you can learn as much about a person from the place he calls home. What I saw amazed me. Not only was Tannis well-ordered with his surroundings, he tried as much as possible to keep his spot tidy. The guy had a strong chance if Mugen was the only one who called the shots in relationships. He was manly enough to make me feel secured. He was a good man who was able to gnaw into my defenses. There was never a moment of repulsion when we get intimate with each other. For a moment, I thought what was only lacking to cement our bond was formality. Unfortunately, Darkstar's and Pulsar's opinion weighted heavily and as we got to know each other, the light which illuminated him a few days before began to dim the more he revealed himself in the dark.

"Can I call you honey?" he blurted out while we were cuddling in the sofa.

"Huh? Do you think we're going too fast?" I asked.

He frowned at me to express his feelings of disappointment.

"I think we should get to know each other more before entering a relationship," I suggested. "After all, my attention is all yours," I mumbled to myself.

I left his place more confused than when I arrived. Mugen and Darkstar had both agreed to give it a shot and what kept things hanging was Pulsar's reservation. You see, the only thing missing - and I was looking for Tannis - was depth and sublimity. While he raved about Sex in the City and Queer As Folk, I was hoping we could talk about other things - like current events, history, or at least even Science Fiction or our thoughts of life and living without any pretensions. After three failed attempts in relationships, I finally learned what I am looking for: a partner I could talk to; a buddy who I could share my most intimate thoughts and insights; a friend who would truly enjoy the strange places I go and things I do. I was willing to wait for Tannis. Unfortunately, he was too impatient to see me bare myself and in his fear that I might just leave him in the end, he made a move that would keep us - remaining apart.

On the night of the Outsiders Christmas Party, Tannis asked for another meet-up. I told him I could not come for I have other engagements already in place. He might have taken my rejection badly that he went out to have a drink with his "tropa." I never asked who this "tropa" was but I felt something odd about the manner he relayed the message. When the party was over, I texted informing him that I arrived home. I never got a reply. The following afternoon, he sent an SMS message telling me that he got home past 4 in the morning.

And then there was dead silence afterwards.

Piecing the events that took place, I conclude that maybe because of his deep longing for someone to call his own, he went back to Malate to seek a replacement. Perhaps he found a new one that morning. There is also a possibility that a rival was already there before I came and what he was waiting for was the one who would first give in. Too bad, what I was asking is a little more time. For him however, time was never the essence - it is the attachment that counts.

I sent two more text messages to express my declaration of affection but I never received any reply. Knowing how most guys conduct their romantic affairs, I understood that it was time for me to go. What is so strange is that I felt more relieved to see him fade away rather than feel bad that I let him go.

New Year begins and I am completely free from any attachments. The circles, which took three months to draw are now complete. As I begin to draw a new one, it is my hope that whatever misfortunes I struck in the past would never happen again. Tannis could have been the fourth, had he let me get drawn to him a little more closer.

But he didn't. He was rushing to have a relationship without knowing more about his soon-to-be-partner.

And so, the time of isolation ends today. The book of Tannis is now closed. We grieved for Phanks long enough and we have stayed away from Malate rather than exploring the possibilities of getting to know the people we bump in that place.

2009 opens with me, searching the distance for any silhouette or shadowy figure that might be the fourth.

For who knows, maybe in the horizon; maybe just beyond the clouds; or maybe,

after staring at sunsets for too long.

The soul I am looking for would just appear unexpectedly, standing next to me.

Happy New Year Everyone.

Today (2K8 Remix)

Inspiration in solitude; strength in one-man armada

- MSN shoutout for the day

---

I woke up at eleven o' clock this morning, an hour earlier than my usual rise-up-from-bed-time.

After brushing my teeth, i went to the barber to have my hair done. From now on, I will have to seek gatsby's help to fix my hair. Gone are the semikal days when my head looks like a freshly cut coconut being sold in the streets.

I went home after my haircut. As I crossed the overpass near my place, I passed by an old lady begging under the rain. She was soaking wet and chilling because of the unbelievably cold weather. I would have given her my umbrella if not for the fear of another illness befalling me. With two five peso coins to spare, i parted with my change hoping it would be enough to last her until another passer finds her state heart wrenching.

I arrived home starving. With no time to waste, I took a bath, ate my lunch and kissed my mom goodbye. Despite her silvery hair, deep lines on her face, and significant teeth loss, she still is the most beautiful woman to ever walked the earth for me. I won't be gay if I found someone else better than her. It was past noon and I had to hit the gym. I had to complete my workout if I wish to free my evening for other plans.

The workout went well. I am back to my old program but signs of weakness tell that I haven't returned to my full strength. Halfway through the 110-lbs military press, my arms have buckled down. I had to lessen the weight of the Olympic Bar if I wish to declare my program done. Ever since recovering from Throatie, I didn't miss any single workout day to compensate for my week-long absence. Add to that my significant loss of weight and I'd think that Throatie did good for my fitness goals rather than mess up my well-being.

Still, despite my strong desire to suppress my physical attachment for another, I yearn for an intimate hug from someone. I do not know, maybe it's just my nature. On very cold nights like this morning before I went into slumber, my thoughts dwell on wrapping my arms around a soft, warm object hoping it would respond to my longing. Unfortunately, only a small extra pillow answered to my call of need.

I came to work twelve minutes late. Workout was extended to give way for my activities later. With sixteen pesos and seventy-five centavos in my wallet, I am basically broke. I will have to survive on pancakes tonight prepared by a house help who is worried that I might be skipping meals.

A colleague was absent and I'm running an entire account all by myself. We have talked about her leave last weekend and with the worst of luck, a bout of sickness aided her plans today. The challenge at work is daunting but with no one playing RnB and Mariah on the floor, I can free my thoughts and do what a faux psychic must do: make everyone believe that words can foretell the future.

This one-man show is a test of endurance. The shift falls on a dead zone where most users across the planet are asleep and wandering in their dreams. Resentments may rise, but if we can prove our worth being durable operators, perhaps nobody will speak of us being sheltered from the deluge. If goals are met even if I stood alone, others will see our worth like everyone else across the shifts.

When work is done and my shift is over, I will have my only off for the week. I will do my midnight shopping in Divisoria wishing to add more gains to my list. After all the errands have been done, I will arrive home weary and exhausted. I just know. I'm running on short supply of energy. When the clock strikes four, it will be bedtime. It is my hope that when I wake up tomorrow, everything will unbound itself from the hands of the clock.

And the day will cease to be planned.

For a change, I will have my slow time all to myself
breathing the cool scent of trees;
letting my eyes shimmer at the sight of a wintry sun
and just forgetting that the grind starts anew when dawn comes two days from now.

Monthsary | The Long Sleep

I have a friend and his name is Pablo. We have known each other since my G4M days and he is one of the few selected people I still keep after leaving that website for good. Though our first meet-up was somewhat strained, we have eventually rebuilt our relationship to the point that we became close friends early last year. We only met twice but what keeps our bond strong is our constant text communication. Last month, he played an important role in my life by being a source of possible love affairs that I might entertain should I change my mind and open up.

And so there he was referring me to guys he met before. He would sometimes send a text message telling me how hot this guy is and then proceed to ask if I would want to meet this person as well. Knowing that the guy might have been a pasa-load (don't ask me what this means, I tell you the term is not pleasant) I would decline his offer. However one afternoon, he caught me off guard. I was restless and when he referred me to his friend who was also looking for a potential date, I grabbed Pablo's offer and engaged his referral right away.

Let us call this guy Peregrinus. If you are wondering how I came up with such code name, let's say it is his real name. Apparently, Pablo was so thrilled to play a matchmaker role that he gave away my Friendster to this new guy. I saw him checking my profile, which I locked recently after the breakup. However, Peregrinus' profile wasn't locked so I had a field day stalking him until I was satisfied with what I learned from his Friendster.

Peregrinus fit my standards. He was older, somewhat masculine, dark skinned, stocky and had a smile which charmed me. He included photos of his good-looking exes on his profile, which somehow put me on guard. I cannot compete with them. I was set to ignore my referral after having a tour of his profile. Unfortunately the call of boredom was so strong that I decided to text him anyway.

A day later, he replied to my second attempt to reach out. Our text affair started shortly after.

My new text mate was quite engaging. He caught my attention because of his sensibility and his apparent desire to change his old habits. You see, he was thrice experienced as I was and his bedside manners, which he proudly boasted during our chats were quite a challenge to match. He seemed to keep a naughty side that I was drawn to and despite our indirect flirting to each other, we ended up being close.

He was in the process of rehabilitation. Instead of seeking short-term affairs, Peregrinus was bent on getting serious with someone who can offer him a stable relationship. The tone of my voice - being formal and sensible - gave an impression that I was serious. He responded with much enthusiasm to my sweetness that he began calling me Sunshine a week after our engagement started.

Despite our interesting and provocative message exchanges, it was never my intention to meet him. Something tells me that I was not ready and I might just bore him when we decide to see face to face. One evening I decided to call him so we can hear each other's voice. It lead to a night-long phone conversation where I got to know him beyond the things he said in SMS. What I learned however lead to a wane in interest. Our differences were significant that it would be impossible to see each other eye to eye. The contrast in traits did not stop him from seeking me further. As his feelings strengthened, mine slowly faded away. The growing rift was subtle at the beginning, until Mister Throatie intervened and widened the gap that would set the two of us permanently apart.

---

The week-long bout with sickness cut my connection to everyone including Peregrinus. Though he made some huge efforts to keep our ties open, I was already slipping away. I cannot keep him as a friend knowing that our objective was to appraise each other for a possible relationship. Lines were never crossed unlike with Tannis, but beneath the conversations lie undeniable romantic undertones that began to strain our friendship. I would like to tell Pablo what was happening, but knowing that he just achieved an all-time high with his budding relationship, I felt that I had to deal Peregrinus the way I dealt with others before.

A week before December arrived, I stopped responding to his text messages. I just had to pull the plug knowing that his feelings were getting stronger, while mine had become non-existent. It was a harsh choice that I need to do, for I know that we will never get anywhere. I would just disappoint him in the end.

Looking at how things are going, it seems like I am still applying my disengagement policy which I followed when I was still taken. It was meant to keep myself from getting attached whenever I cross the lines with someone. This time, the policy was meant to keep myself from being romantically involved with people I cannot love. As the trend goes, the more I am getting used to being single, the more elusive I become.

Still, the memory of Phanks remains a wound that seem to be getting worse as time passes. I think of him almost all the time. His thoughts drown me when I was burning with fever and chilling under the sheets. I remember his nakedness whenever the urge to impale someone assaults my senses and I dread his presence whenever he invades my sleep. By now it is clear that what remains are the painful recollections. Much as I would like to move on and start all over again, remembering him and what we have become puts all my desire to explore a new life with someone at the edge of my aspirations.

As I contemplate the events that happened in the month of Chrysanthemum - the flirtatious advances I did to a stranger inside an FX going to Megamall only to dump him the moment we arrived at our destination; the month-long absence in the dance clubs of Malate; the cyber-pact of celibacy with Odin; the no ordinary morning with the Soulkeeper and the disappointing ending with Peregrinus, I am in for a very long sleep.

The Citadel was able to provide solace behind its thick walls, but now that nothing seems to sustain my interest anymore, it is best to completely suspend my longings for affection and embrace the coldness that permeate deep inside my aching chest. Perhaps, in my slumber, I will find the means to heal my brokenness.

And maybe, after hearing songs and lullabies about love in my dreams, waking up will be a breeze and starting all over again will be like a pleasant stroll in the fields.

Before We Close The Gates

And lately it seems we've been chasing
what time's resolved.
Or maybe something means nothing
Here after all.

- Collective Soul, After All

---

What I will never admit to my heart, no matter what truth presents is that the one who comes closest to the person I am searching; the one I would readily keep in my arms; the one I would do everything to take away his sadness and pain

is someone just a heartbeat away.

But we are bound to go separate ways. We are only meant to be friends.

Therefore, I have erected listening posts around my citadel in search of another. In my greatest fear however, I feel nobody else will come close. Absolute chemistry is simply hard to find.

The gates are now locked. The long sleep begins.

Disturbia

How was she able to cope up with the truths? I have no idea.

But one thing is for sure, she tried to be as supportive as a mother could be in my relationship.

And for once, tanggapin ang maaring katotohanan

at intindihin ang magiging kasiyahan niya.

Wind Down

It's been more than a day after the euphoria in Chicago had ended. Scenes of jubilation splashed all over TV screens that evening. A civil rights activist in the sixties was caught on camera shedding tears as the new leader spoke. In an interview a day later on CNN, he explained that he was crying for all the black people who gave up their lives for this day to become a reality. "It was the fulfillment of a preacher's dream," he said "Who would have thought America will have its first black president in our lifetime."

Around the world, people of all color celebrated. Kenya declared a national holiday while in Obama, Japan people drank sake and ate sushi to celebrate a town's namesake ascend to the world's most powerful presidency. Not even America's foes dared spoil Obama's victory knowing that the entire planet is watching the historic event. Change has arrived in the US and its ripples of hope are now leaving the warm waters of that nation as it head towards unfamiliar shores around the planet.

---

Like millions who listened to Obama's victory speech yesterday, my eyes welled up with tears as he spoke of optimism in a world beset by troubles. He was like a lone candle whose flames shone brightly amidst the pitch black darkness. His rousing and assuring words were like fire that burned inside men's hearts. It moves those who listened to believe that dreams are still possible to achieve.

"To all those who have wondered if America's beacon still burns as bright," the new president's voice boomed. "Tonight we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity and unyielding hope."

And the world nodded in unison.

The tasks that lie ahead is daunting. A day after his victory speech in the windy city of Chicago, financial experts announced that the world is now in recession. Russia had its saber-rattling welcome to the new US leader after President Medvedev, in a state of the nation address to Russia, announced a missile re-deployment close to Poland. There is an ongoing squabble for energy resources and two wars to conclude. The threat of Global Warming puts the planet in peril and as long as millions of Americans don't have jobs, economic activity around the world will continue to decline.

Obama is now the president of the United States and the world is now coming to terms with the reality.

He has four years to fulfill the dreams of billions. It is my hope that he will not put his promises down.

---

When I arrive home tonight, things will be very different. CNN will not report about the developments in the US elections like it used to do several days ago. The thrill and excitement is over. Instead, it will return to regular programming reporting mundane and often trivial events happening across the world. Wars and crises will once again dominate the headlines, punctured occasionally by speeches of Obama. Sarah Palin will return to being the obscure and unknown governor of Alaska, while John McCain will spend the rest of his life being the maverick senator from Arizona.

Bush will be shunned forever in books and in the media.

And things will return back to being normal.

As for me, I will drop my political inclinations to focus my attention on pressing matters at home. The issue of recession is still unresolved, while the continuous push towards the heart of my citadel is preventing potential partners from bailing me out.

Looking back, it remains a great mystery why I took with great passion the elections in the US like my life depended on it.

History would be a good excuse,

Change is another.

But as I reflected deeper on the meaning of change, it rings a tune so melodic, it may actually move my life directly.

The ripples of change has left the shores of US yesterday after Obama was elected President. It travels from shore to shore, bringing goodwill and hope to those who embrace it.

They say change is contagious.

Who knows, after being awashed with a renewed sense of purpose; after being inspired by a young black senator from Illinois who moved mountains and cities on the other side of the globe to become his nation's new leader.

That change, which he uttered over and over from town to city; That change, which he sang in speeches with so much eloquence it moved people to tears; That change, which feeds people's desires to open their arms and embrace their dreams.

That change will eventually come to me.
