Foo Fighters

The Pushpaka chariot that resembles the Sun and belongs to my brother was brought by the powerful Ravana; that aerial and excellent chariot going everywhere at will .... that chariot resembling a bright cloud in the sky ... and the King [Rama] got in, and the excellent chariot at the command of the Raghira, rose up into the higher atmosphere.

My mom used to tell us this story about our close encounter of the third kind. In the early days, our old house in Sampaloc had this very large opening next to her room's bathroom. Like a sundeck on a densely packed neighborhood, it lead to the neighbors' rusty rooftops, where toddler steps like mine made creaky, clattery sounds which threw the back-door neighbors in a fit of rage. Long before they decreed to put up a concrete wall to block our exit for good, the window was left open at the middle of the night. There, my dad would let me sit by the windowsill as we made animal figures out of stars and planets in the sky. Mom would sometimes join us in between her grinding house chores or test paper checking breaks, thus completing a picture-perfect portrait of a family peeking out from a wide opening to try and figure things out in the dark.

One night, I remember being slightly interrupted from my sleep after dad insisted on seeing a strange object hovering high above our house. Carrying me on his shoulders, we raced towards the sundeck window where my mom was already peeking outside to catch a glimpse of the flying disk. Mother would later claim every time the subject is brought up that what we saw was a metallic orange ball of light and that there were other witnesses across the city, and that the appearance of the strange flying object even made headlines in the news the following day. Mom would even tell us that she discouraged my dad from opening the window too wide out of fear that we might get abducted. These crystalline details were lost to me now. What I can vaguely recall was seeing a bright orange object.

Nothing more, nothing less.

However, when I hear stories about strange orbs creating light shows or woozy movements in the sky, or whimsy unidentified flying things being reported chasing earthbound aircraft only to outrun it at lightning speeds, I recall that time when we had an encounter of our own. A decade after bearing witness to that shiny metallic object hovering high above our sun deck window, a UFO craze descended upon the mainstream media. It coincided with the coming "Rapture" where, according to its promoters, every chosen soul will be abducted and placed on one of the huge evacuation starships in orbit around Earth. They were even building a secret base somewhere at the foothills of Mount Banahaw to prepare for such interstellar humanitarian effort.

At the height of the media frenzy, I was going gaga over these things, believing I could be one of the chosen ones as told by the "contactees" being interviewed on television. Dad did not discourage me from my delusions, and instead fueled it by giving me this dossier full of press releases about the UFOs and their respective space commanders. For quite some time, I tried to "telepathically" make contact with these visitors hoping they would give me a hint of their presence. The only thing I saw during the entire madness was a runaway balloon fleeing to the sky from a children's birthday party somewhere in the neighborhood.

The sensation eventually fizzled out a few months later and the hyped "Rapture" disappointed everyone, including me. One of the "contactees" ended up being a sideshow publicist of the late "Da King" during a national elections another decade later, while the lead spokesperson for the visitors now fashion herself as a modern age Babaylan and established a cult somewhere in Mindanao a few years ago. Such were the fate of those who decieved an entire nation and made their believers think that their homeland was the "New Jerusalem" of the coming millenium.

While many have forgotten about this "grand" scheme envisioned by those visitors from the sky, it left me searching for answers. I sought the wisdom of Carl Sagan by reading his books Cosmos and Contact; opened my mind to the possibility of our first civilizations and early histories being tampered by extraterrestials according to Erich von Daniken; and scoured countless astronomy books in our school's library and in the bookstores for any real proof that life could exist in another planet.

But like the constant cycles of the moon, time changes everything and eventually, I gave up my childish wonders in exchange for something more real. Gone are the days when I would think about ways of sending humans to planet Mars and instead, just focus my attention on some pressing matters like where to get the money to pay for my credit card bills next month.

On some restless nights however, my inner geek suddenly escapes and leaves an ion trail across the four corners of my room. In need for means to get distracted, I would watch episode reruns of Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica or Babylon 5 to feel the good old days again. Sometimes I would find myself browsing the internet reading spoilers of my favorite space-themed movies or articles about close encounters in wikipedia. When in need to kill time, I would still recreate interstellar empires on the computer and let myself enter another reality by engaging alien civilizations in diplomacy, trade or warfare instead of pursuing my other sensual needs.

Things would have been easier if I never keep this lingering question whether are we alone in the universe or not. I do not know how it got into my thoughts, but I suspect that my earliest exposure to outerworld speculations remain the biggest culprit. Carl Sagan, until his death, only had assumptions as to why the existence of other beings were possible, while Von Daniken was refuted and declared fraud many years after his most popular books were published. The International Astronomical Union continues to catalogue planets outside the solar system, as SETI remains listening for any radio signals being transmitted from outer space.

The answer remains elusive and time is running out. The more I grow older and gain more scars in life, the less I think of things

like UFOs
and life in another planet
and human-like silhouettes appearing and disappearing in your peripheral vision. (which I know, deserves an entry of its own.)

But life would never get its spice if every mysteries that abound have already been resolved. There will always be subjects we would question and some series of events that we would ponder and yet, never understand at all. Much as I would like to put some sense to the things my eyes have seen, there are times that it is easier to accept them as they are, rather than complicate everything with reason and logic.

Escape Velocity

When humans question the validity of their existence, they look up in the sky and dream of the stars.

Some civilizations even send their flying machines to outer space just to be reminded that some future awaits them among the company of heavens.

The Baikonur Cosmodrome (Kazakh: Байқоңыр ғарыш айлағы, Bayqoñır ğarısh aylağı; Russian: Космодром Байконур, Kosmodrom Baykonur), also called Tjuratam, is the first and largest operational space launch facility in the world. It is located in the desert steppes of Kazakhstan, about 200 kilometers east of the Aral Sea and north of the Syr Darya river, near Tjuratam railway station. The facility derives its name from a wider area known as Baikonur and is also traditionally linked with the town of Zhezqazghan. It is leased by the Kazakh government to Russia and is managed by the Russian Federal Space Agency. It was originally built by the Soviet Union in the late 1950s as the base of operations for its ambitious space program, but fell into decline in the years after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991.

Vostok 1, the first manned spacecraft in human history, was launched from one of Baikonur's launch pads, which is presently known as the Gagarin's Start.

The John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC) is the NASA space vehicle launch facility and Launch Control Center (spaceport) on Merritt Island, Brevard County, Florida, United States. The site is near Cape Canaveral, midway between Miami and Jacksonville, Florida. It is 55 kilometers long and around 10 kilometers wide. A total of 13,500 people work at the site as of 2008. There is a visitor center and public tours; KSC is a major tourist destination for visitors to Florida. Because much of KSC is a restricted area and only nine percent of the land is developed, the site also serves as an important wildlife sanctuary; Mosquito Lagoon, Indian River, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and Canaveral National Seashore are also features of this area.

Operations are currently controlled from Launch Complex 39, the location of the Vehicle Assembly Building. The two launch pads are 3 miles (5 km) to the east of the assembly building. The KSC Industrial Area, where many of the Center's support facilities and the administrative Headquarters Building are located, are found 5 miles (8 km) south.

Kennedy Space Center's only launch operations are at Launch Complex 39. All other launch operations take place at the adjacent Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS), which is operated by the US Air Force.

The Guiana Space Centre, or more commonly, Centre Spatial Guyanais (CSG) is a French spaceport near Kourou in French Guiana. Operational since 1968, it is particularly suitable as a location for a spaceport due to its proximity to the equator, and the fact that launches in the favourable direction are over water. The European Space Agency, the French space agency CNES, and the commercial Arianespace company conduct launches from Kourou.

The location was selected in 1964 to become the spaceport of France. When the European Space Agency (ESA) was founded in 1975, France offered to share Kourou with ESA. Commercial launches are bought also by non-European companies. ESA pays two thirds of the spaceport's annual budget, and has also financed the upgrades made during the development of the Ariane launchers.

Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center (JSLC) (simplified Chinese: 酒泉卫星发射中心; traditional Chinese: 酒泉衛星發射中心; pinyin: Jiǔquán Wèixīng Fāshè Zhōngxīn) is a People's Republic of China space vehicle launch facility (spaceport) in the Gobi desert, Inner Mongolia, located about 1,600 km from Beijing.

It was founded in 1958, making it PRC's first of three spaceports. More Chinese launches have occurred at Jiuquan than anywhere else. As with all Chinese launch facilities it is remote and generally closed to foreigners. It is named as such since Jiuquan is the nearest urban centre, although Jiuquan is in the nearby province of Gansu.

The Satellite Launch Center is a part of Dongfeng space city, also known as Base 10 or Dongfeng base, which also includes PLAAF test flight facilities, a space museum and a martyr's cemetery.

JSLC is usually used to launch vehicles into lower and medium orbits with large orbital inclination angles, as well as testing medium to long-range missiles. Its facilities are state of the art and provide support to every phase of a satellite launch campaign. The site includes the Technical Center, the Launch Complex, the Launch Control Center, the Mission Command and Control Center and various other logistical support systems.

The center covers a massive 2800 km and may have housing for as many as 20 000 people. The facilities and launch support equipment were likely modelled on Soviet counterparts and the Soviet Union, at least in the early 1960s, may have provided technical support to Jiuquan.

The launch center has been the focus of many of China's ventures into space, including their first satellite Dong Fang Hong 1 in 1970, and their first manned space mission Shenzhou 5 on October 15, 2003.

Shenzhou 6, the second human spaceflight of China, launched on 12 October 2005 on a Long March rocket from JSLC.

The Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR) (सतीश धवन अंतरिक्ष केंद्र) is the launch centre for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It is located in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, India and is also referred to as Sriharikota. The centre is located 80 kilometres north of Chennai in South India. It was originally called Sriharikota Range, and was sometime known as Sriharikota Launching Range. The centre was renamed to its present name in 2002 after the death of ISRO's former chairman Satish Dhawan.

The centre became operational in October, 1971 when an RH-125 sounding rocket was launched. The first attempted launch of an orbital satellite, Rohini 1A aboard a Satellite Launch Vehicle, took place in 1979, but due to a failure in thrust vectoring of the rocket's second stage, the satellite's orbit decayed.

The SHAR facility now consists of two launch pads, with the second built recently. The second launch pad was used for launches beginning in 2005 and is a universal launch pad, accommodating all the launch vehicles used by ISRO. The two launch pads will allow multiple launches in a single year, which was not possible earlier.

India's lunar orbiter Chandrayaan 1 was launched from the centre last October 22, 2008.

Several centuries earlier -- legend says about 1500 AD, around the middle of the Ming Dynasty -- a Chinese stargazer named Wan Hu dreamed of going where no man had gone before and set out to turn that dream into space age reality.

According to the legend, Wan, a local government official, was obsessed by the stars and planned a rather harebrained scheme to get himself closer to them.

Wan tied 47 rockets filled with explosives to the chair in which he was sitting and ignited them. There was a large explosion, but when the smoke cleared Wan Hu was gone and never seen again.

Elune

"Look at how the moon bathes the sleeping landscape in its silvery glow, isn't it so amazing?"

"Uh huh. And the quiet, cool breeze makes me wanna cuddle someone, could you move a little closer, I want to feel you."

Leon turned his starry gaze towards his dreamy companion. It's the first time he spoke of such openness towards him ever since their nightly vigil began.

"Fuck you! get away from me you faggot!" He gently punched his arm before wrapping his around his neck.

"Damn you Avicenna, seems like our blissful spot is turning you on huh? What if someone finds us?"

"Who cares!" Avicenna leans his back against Leon's shoulders. "What matters is you're here with me."

"It will be a long night you know, and watching this patch of land with you is the only moment I got before things return to its hellish state tomorrow."

The landscape around them appears to enjoy the eerie calmness on this most elusive of nights as well. It's been months since the vast swaths of primeval forests, pristine lakes and snow-capped hills surrounding their fortress basked in such tranquility. Even the nearby city of Lumina shimmers from its artificial lights. A few weeks back and its searchlights would be beamed towards the sky, watching for any Pathallasa fighters appearing on the horizon.

"I wonder when will this all end?" Avicenna mumbles.

"If the fighting is over, it might be the end of us as well."

Before this crisis happened. Avicenna and Leon lived on the opposite sides of the realm. Avicenna was in his early-twenties: tall, slim, fair-skinned and with droopy-sad eyes that attracts sympathy of whoever gazes at them. He was a pre-school teacher before his creche was burned to the ground by the first enemy assault.

Meanwhile, Leon was a farmer: buff, dark-skinned, and with arms as big as the logs he burns at night. His hut sits on the edge of a grass-covered cliff overlooking the sea and the distant volcanic peaks of St. Agnes Island. When war was declared, he was conscripted by the then Girharde government. Unfortunately, that government fell within weeks and it its place now heads the military dictator Mabushke. The Mabushke regime is known for its brutality to any opposition. For Leon and Avicenna however, it never mattered. Their time being the nocturnal guardians of the east watchtower is all that is important to them.

"When the fighting is over, we will have to return to our former lives. That means you will become a pre-school teacher again, and I..."

"Lets live together," Leon insists. "I don't think anyone will raise a question about it. Even the great leader Mabushke is known to keep a harem of fine, young ladies and she's a female."

"But she has the power and we're just pawns in her army."

"Who cares?!?!" Leon held Avicenna's right hand tightly. Sweat slowly dribbles from his face as he tilts his head closer to his.

"Time is of no essence, I just want to be with you forever."

Before their lips were able to lock on to each other, a sudden flash of light blinds everything in sight. It is followed by searing heat which tore both Leon and Avicenna's olive-green military uniform hugging their muscular bodies. Their flesh then begins to melt like wax exposing the muscles and bones beneath their skin. With both of them weak and unable to speak, they embraced each other as the flames of death consumes whatever is left of their being.

Their inhuman remains were discovered a few months later, together with the 200,000 unsuspecting souls from the Gallente Fortress and the nearby city of Lumina. Whatever is left of their existence was their titanium-zylon dogtags stacked on top of each other.

They were the victims of the Khorasan sneak attacks: a sad period in their nation's history, which was authorized and later denied by none other but Mabushke herself. It was said that she let the enemy penetrate the most insignificant parts of her country to have a pretext of launching a solar-burst airstrike against her enemy's heartland.

The sacrifice met its purpose.

A few months later, peace was sealed between the warring factions.

Pasubali | Chronicles of El Tigre (Episode Four)

  • Adult Clothes
  • Adult Diapers
  • Beddings (unan, kumot, etc)
  • Rice
  • Baston/Canes
  • Vitamins
  • Bath Soap
  • Detergent soap
  • Toothbrush & Toothpaste
  • Towels (yung malaki na parang good morning towels)
  • Baby Powder
  • Lotions

Maraming salamat guys!

Grenasian Tea Party

I.

We are here today to witness a very important meeting among the victors of the last Grovaxian War. The council will decide on the steps it will take regarding last week's assault by the Meganus headed by the vile and brutal King Koopa against our noble allies from the hills of Lolorobad: the Gomon Tribe.

Good evening ladies, gentlemen, and fellow animals. This is Faragorn Fairingay reporting to you live from the new dancing grounds of Artavia. In the course of this council meeting, I will bring to you up to the minute reports about this most historic event that would spell war or peace once again in our fair lands.

May the lady of the light protect us all.

II.

The conflict began shortly after the appearance of a doll wandering near the hills of Kolinhar, which as we all know lies within the newly expanded holdings of the Gomon Tribe. The Gomons believe that this doll came from the outer realms. Since we do not have the necessary knowledge to support their claims, many among the council members dismissed this belief as part of Gomon mysticism.

However, other creatures - particularly those from the Empire of Mumrah share this belief and the race to abduct the lost doll ensued. War machines were mobilized and as a result, it lead to a brief skirmish which resulted to the death of a Gomon officer and a Rider pilot. The doll was captured by the victorious Meganus forces.

A call to rescue the doll was requested by the Gomon Government. Since the council, especially the Artavians remain heavily indebted to their assistance during its last war against the marauding Grovaxian armies, representatives from different nations of Grenasia were sent to discuss and debate the matter over at the "Tea Party."

We've got word that the emissaries have now been assembled. Let us hear what they are about to say.

III.

"Ladies, Gentlemen and to our animal friends who have been with us throughout the forgotten ages," began the Princess Jasmine of Artavia.

"We have assembled here in the dancing grounds to listen to the plea of our ally. Our old enemies have been awakened and our lands are under threat. As witness to the foreboding darkness that might befall upon us, I introduce to you once again our friend and comrade, Magistrate Sallapudini of the Gomon Tribe."

IV.

"Greetings! esteemed representatives of Grenasia. We have come in peace, but we bring terrible news. For eons the Gomons have pondered whether there is life out there - in the realms only few of us would ever imagine. We sent our renowned and most advanced flying vessels to explore these lands but none of them have returned. We longed for answers even during our long sleep, but only, after so many ages of waiting have our longings been answered."

"A few weeks ago, a doll, much like our great lady of the light showed up in our doorstep. We have treated her with much respect, and tried our best to introduce the varied way of life and cultures flourishing in our lands. She told us many secrets that we are willing to share with you. Listen well and listen carefully, for what we are about to say will change the way you think of our existence."

"We are not alone my friends. Other intelligent creatures flourish and thrive in other realms."

A commotion and slight panic ensued after the magistrate's revelation. The Tortons, who have always believed that their lands are the center of Grenesia were on the verge of leaving the dancing grounds.

V.

"Her name is Lady Qiki of the Kingdom of Camhalla. In their realm lives dolls like ours. Such verdant land of hers know no war or misery. They don't have any flying vessels to protect their lands or spirit away their weary brothers and sisters to safe havens in times of enemy assaults. They don't have foes desiring their homes and enslaving their people. What they have is a benevolent omniscience who looks after their needs."

"We could have introduced her to you - to this council had our first contact wasn't disrupted by our common foe. The Empire was watching our every move and when we laid down our arms and welcomed the lady in peace, they struck leaving us shaken with the ferocity of their attack."

"Our brethren - our brethren the Riders, which we joined alongside with you took advantage of our weakness and hit our most prized flying vessel with their beam weapon. It killed one of our soldiers and left our most able general sobering for days. We do not know their intentions, but just like the Empire which ambushed us, they are bent on abducting the lady for their own purposes."

"We come here as your brothers seeking assistance in rescuing the lady of the outer realms. Not only do we value the wisdom she is willing to share, but it is our gracious and hospitable nature that drive us to claim and return her back to her land. We humbly seek your knowledge, your might and your unity to rescue Lady Qiki who shares our values and prevent our foes from knowing what would be dangerous to ours. The time to act is now and we wish to have your presence in this war we shall declare."

Hushed and terrified voices followed after the Magistrate's speech.

VI.

Welcome to the chamber of severed dreams my lady.

Huuuuuhhh... my head is spinning... Where am I... Who are you... What is this place... and where are my friends...

You are now under our protection, you do not have to fear us. It is our great honor to introduce you to one of your kind.

What do you mean... do you have dolls living with you? May I ask for your name?

Relax, you will find out soon enough. I am Emperor Mumrah and you are in my kingdom. Our foes call this place Mount Grovax.

Grovaxia welcomes you, Lady Qiki of Camhalla.

Warp and Weft

Tell us something about your land my lady.

Well, Camhalla is really a beautiful place. We know no wars or misery and everyone seems to be having a tea and biscuit party all the time.

Is that all there is to see in Camhalla?

Oh, but Captain Terrille, my home is a thriving kingdom for dolls like me. The great omniscience ensures that our needs are attended to. We seek our meaning and our purpose, and lately, we have begun to ponder if we are the only dolls around. I was the first to be sent to explore other worlds, so here I am talking you.

So... are there any creatures like us out there? Maybe our ancestors were able to send flying ships to other worlds. I know, a lot of us have tried but no one came back. Who knows, these intrepid pioneers were able to bridge the distance and spread throughout different realms.

How I wish I know Captain, but, this is the first world assigned to me. Maybe, when I venture elsewhere...

...Momoko what are you doing?

Your legs are so soft. Are all dolls like you?

Please don't... come... any closer... It feels so gooood...

MOMOKO, COME HERE NOW!

But I didn't do anything Captain. I'm just... touching her.

Can't you see the lady is not- -

It's alright, thank you Captain for being a gentleman.

What is a gentleman my lady?

You don't know what a gentleman is Captain?

No, I don't.

Well never mind. Anyway, Camhalla has no leaders, kings or alliances like you have here. We are never ruled by any doll, but we speak in behalf of the Omniscient One.

Do you know any dolls like you?

Yes Momoko, there are a lot of dolls like me. There's Cynthia and Kenny, AJ and Mikhail - They're a gay couple. And there is Puypuy, our seer and the wisest among us.

What is a gay couple?

Hmmm... Well Momoko, think of it this way. I presume you and the captain are both males.

I don't know. We Gomons have no sexes.

Well how do you breed and multiply then?

My lady, I am afraid Momoko and I cannot tell you. It is something, we don't tell to anyone.

I understand. Sorry for bringing it up.

So what is a gay couple?

Your friend is really curious huh Captain? Anyway Momoko, have you ever thought of having deep and romantic feelings with your captain?

I don't know lady Kee-Kee, but I want to be with the Captain all the time. The Captain is what I live for. I feel so happy and secured when he is around.

Then maybe, you are in love with him!!

Do you think so? I don't know what love is... but if my feelings for Captain exactly describe what love is... then maybe I am.

That's great! AJ and Mikhail would love to hear your story.

Why are you so quiet Captain? Don't you feel happy that Momoko is confessing his deep feelings for you? Will you not acknowledge his declaration of love?

I am sorry my lady, but Gomons do not feel...

It is because we are afraid to feel. That's why we are born in - -

Shut up Momoko or I will throw you in the brig when we return home!

No need to fight over your feelings boys! Well Captain, if you say so, then so it shall be. But you know what, it seems you are hiding something... Nevermind.

Tell me about Grenasia, or at least your people. I would love to hear your story.

Well then, our story goes something like - -

---

FIRE THE CANNONS!! AVOID HITTING THE DOLL AT ALL COST!

BOOM!!! BOOM!!!

Duck my lady! Duck!!

What is happening Captain? Why are they shooting at us?

They are the loyal servants of Emperor Mumrah, our sworn enemies, the Meganus.

BOOM!!! BOOM!! BOOM!!

Captain, they are closing at us. Stay with the lady.

Where are you going?

To the Falconis, I will fly it to distract them. Tell the council they have arrived.

Momoko, wait!!

See you when I get back Captain.

The Meganus Flagship, Kashiyette lands. King Koopa emerges from the blast doors.

So, we meet again Gomon Terrille. Do you still remember how your people destroyed my Mt. Grovax Stronghold?

Yes, and we will do it over and over again until you don't have any means of spreading darkness into our lands Koopa.

TELL THE PIKA-SUU TO LAUNCH THE ABDUCTION CABLES! WE WILL TAKE THE DOLL AND DESTROY THE FALCONIS

They seemed armed Captain, I'm scared.

Stay behind my back my lady. Help is on the way.

FIRE!!!!

SWIIISHH!! TLANKS!!! BZZZT!!!

Captain they got me! I can't move.

BUDA! BUDA! BUDA!

The Abduction Cable receives a direct hit. It slips away from the Pika-suu.

You will never get Kee-Kee as long as I'm around!

"King Koopa, the Falconis!"

AIM YOUR CANNONS TOWARD THE FALCONIS! FIRE AT WILL!!

BOOM!! BOOM!! BOOM!!

Haha!! You will never catch up with --

VZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!

The Falconis was hit by an unknown energy ball from the sky it crashed somewhere behind the hills

Whoa!?! Who was that???

MOMOKO!!!!

Momoko...

"King Koopa, the Riders have arrived!!"

Goddammit! I thought Hirogen and the Ultramen destroyed them?

"Some of them must have escaped our attack, what are your orders King Koopa?"

We have to capture the doll no matter what it - -

The Riders began jamming the Kashiyette communication system in order to contact King Koopa.

"ZZZTTT, we are the riders, we have come to get the doll for ourselves, ZZZTT"

"ZZZTTT, you do not have any business here, begone, or be destroyed, ZZZTT"

FRAK THEM RIDERS!!

"King Koopa, the sensors reveal that they are charging their superweapon."

TO THE CAPTAIN OF PIKA-SUU, OVERLOAD YOUR SYSTEM, FULL POWER TO THRUSTERS, RAM YOUR SHIP AGAINST THEIR ROBOT!!

But King Koopa, we will be sacrif - -

"Yes King Koopa."

I DON'T CARE IF THEY ALL DIE! EMPEROR MUMRAH WANTS THE DOLL, THE EMPEROR WILL GET THE DOLL!

Pikasu's afterburners lit up, as King Koopa's flagship lifts up to join its sister ship for a double attack

BOOM!! BOOM!! BOOM!!

"FIRE ALL CANNONS, THE RIDER ROBOT IS A SLOW MOVING TARGET!!"

BOOM!!! BOOM!!! BOOM!!!

Help me Captain, I never thought your world is as violent as this...

Captain...

"We Live for King Koopa, We Die for King Koopa!!"

The Rider Robot was indeed a slow moving target. As it turns around to flee the approaching battleship, The Pika-suu rammed the heavily armored robot, cutting it half. As it plummets to the ground, Qiki was able to spot one of the pilot Riders trying to get out of his ship.

"The Pika-suu destroyed the enemy. There are no survivors King Koopa."

Honor our men's passing my dear comrades, for they died in order for us to live.

"What shall we do with the Gomon captain?"

They must have alerted their allies to our presence. Capture the doll. It's time to claim our gift for Emperor Mumrah!

King Koopas' Flagship fires two tiny projectiles and it probes deep into Qiki's right arm. Suddenly, she felt weak and unable to move

... Help.. me... Captain...

As the Kashiyette prepares to fire its thrusters, Captain Terrille's organic communicator attached to his scales bleeped.

It was the Gomon Council.

"Captain are you there? The Falconis disappeared from our radar screen. Please respond!! If you are still alive, help is on the way.

Magistrate Sallapudinni wants you to know that the Council has sent a word to the old Grenasian Alliance about the doll. The security council will convene in several days"

Still frozen from his spot, Captain Terrille could only utter...

I lied Momoko...

It was you I always long to be with...

The Art Of War

Sun Tzu said: Whoever is first in the field and
awaits the coming of the enemy, will be fresh for the fight;
whoever is second in the field and has to hasten to battle
will arrive exhausted.

VI. Weak Points and Strong

"The council has agreed to let you establish contact with this doll you mentioned. However, we advise you to exercise extreme caution for these dolls can never be trusted."

Yes Magistrate Sallapuddini, we will follow what the council desires to achieve.

"We have our full confidence in you Captain Terrille. We hope that you succeed in your mission."

Thank you. Any news if the other kingdoms have already been awakened?

"We do not have any news as of now. We will tell you about them when they communicate with us."

My utmost appreciation for your consideration. I am afraid Magistrate that our greatest threat is already on the move.

"Worry not Captain, our eyes are on the lookout for any Mogul Forces. We will eliminate the threat the moment we sense them."

I am relieved to know that. It would do us best to seek out the Artavians. We will need their help and the others in case the Moguls call on their vast armies.

"I will bring your concerns to the Council. Goodbye for now."

Captain, the Falconis is about to land. What are your orders?

The lady must not be alerted of our presence. Land this ship where she will not see us.

The art of war teaches us to rely not on the
likelihood of the enemy's not coming, but on our own readiness
to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking,
but rather on the fact that we have made our position unassailable.

VIII. Variation in Tactics

Captain, pardon my inquiry but I heard the Magistrate speak of not trusting the dolls. Was there a time when dolls were our enemies?

You were still a pouchling when it all happened Momoko. The dolls were servants of the dark lord Brolie. They were powerful creatures who simply trampled us in the the battlefield. What stands between us and them was Lady Jasmine. She was the most powerful among them.

Tell me more about Lady Jasmine.

Ahhh!! You have a lot of questions Momoko. Let's talk again next time, we're almost an earshot from the doll.

I'm scared Captain.

Hush, hush. You're a soldier. Don't be intimidated by a giant like her.

Gosh! Why I can't send a message to Camhalla? Is there something wrong with my communicator. I want to go home. *sob*

Umm excuse me...

Had I known this would be hard. I shouldn't have volunteered to become the Ambassadress. The Omniscient One should have sent AJ or Lolita instead. Maybe little Puypuy would fit the mission better.

You won't call her attention by that Dimwit! Let me announce our presence.

HIGH PRAISES TO YOU MOST BEAUTIFUL ONE!!!

Huh? Who's there! Show yourself or I will blast you with my deathray!

Do dolls have deathray Captain?

She's just bluffing. Dolls don't even have flying machines like us.

MY NAME IS CAPTAIN TERRILLE OF THE GOMON TRIBE. WE COME IN PEACE.

You don't need to shout. Just show yourself and keep me company. I am sooooo lonely, I wanna die.

Here we are my dear lady.

Huh? Where?

Look down and you will see us.

Gee... You're so... tiny

And you're so big! I wonder how your mammary glands look like?

Shhhh... Shut your mouth Momoko or we will be in trouble.

Your friend is funny. Do you want to see him fly?

Pardon his tongue my dear lady. It is his first time to see a creature as gorgeous as you.

You're flattering me *blush* I pressume you're the Captain, am I right?

Yes my lady.

Well then. My name is Qiki of the land of Camhalla. I have come here to seek dolls like me. Have you seen anyone.

Oh! Oh! I...

Why did you cover his mouth. Your friend Momoko wishes to speak.

What he will say would just upset you my dear lady. We are also seeking the dolls you seek.

Oh great! Now I have company. Are you the survivors of Grenasia?

When there is dust rising in a high column,
it is the sign of chariots advancing; when the dust is low,
but spread over a wide area, it betokens the approach
of infantry. When it branches out in different directions,
it shows that parties have been sent to collect firewood.

A few clouds of dust moving to and fro signify that the army
is encamping.

IX. The Army on the March

This just came in my lord.

Tell me what is it Hirogen.

Our spy was able to intercept a message from Gomon. The message contains information about the location of the doll from another realm.

Perfect. So it is true that dolls live in another world. Prince Kasper never told us that dolls thrive elsewhere. Perhaps, it was his excuse to rule us all. Nevertheless, I will overlook this deception for higher goals. If dolls do exist not only here in Grenesia, then there are worlds we can conquer out there. This doll will unlock our passage to another realms.

But most of our men are in deep sleep Emperor Mumrah.

No need to worry Detron. They will be awakened in time. This doll... appears to be a delectable present to Prince Kasper. He will be delighted when he finally wakes up.

Yes. And perhaps his life force shall be doubled once he consumes this doll. It's time we avenge our defeat from the Grenasian Alliance.

We will come to that Detron. Have patience my old, old friend.

In making tactical dispositions, the highest pitch
you can attain is to conceal them; conceal your dispositions,
and you will be safe from the prying of the subtlest spies,

from the machinations of the wisest brains.

VI. Weak Points and Strong

Our time of victory is now my dear comrades! Emperor Mumrah has sought our assistance to capture this doll who is under the sway of our sworn enemies, the Gomon. We have lost so much because of them and this time, we shall rain defeat into their homelands. This doll holds the key to our future. If her secrets become ours, countless worlds will fall into our hands. We shall bring terror to those who oppose us and we shall destroy the Gomons once and for all!!

All hail to King Koopa!!!

My dear comrades, we have been given the opportunity to show what we are. The Starjammers were never asked to serve and so were the Ultramen. We will abduct the lady and bring her to the high lord. With luck, Prince Kasper will take notice of our victory and bless us with more courage to fight his battles.

We have two battleships to aid us in our assault.

They will never know what hit them.

First Contact

I've been walking for days but I haven't met any single creature in this place. The guardians are nowhere to be found and I'm getting weary that my mission here would go to waste.

Is the Omniscient One wrong with his vision? I do not feel any dolls' presence around here. Maybe Pulsar was right, everyone disappeared when Grenasia crumbled and its place arose Jomania. If that's the case, I should get ready and leave this realm. There are many other worlds to visit and perhaps, I may find what I'm looking for in those lands.

Anyway, I miss Camhalla, I wish I could go back home.

---

Woops, I bumped into something. What's this? From the looks of it, I think it's an artifact. Lemme take a closer look.

Hmmm..

Nope this is not just an artifact, this is a very ancient toy puzzle. I wonder where it came from? Good thing I know little about Toycheology. I will try to look for inscriptions embedded in this toy.

Bingo! I found it.

According to the inscription this puzzle tortoise has been around for more than 20 thousand years! It was once possessed by a boy who had this penchant for any toy that he can pull with a string.

---

I have visual contact captain. She is indeed someone not from this world. Shall I alert the others of her presence or shall we engage her ourselves? The Falconis is still armed with missiles right?

Let's keep things cool Momoko. I think she is no threat to us. In fact, she might be someone related to Lady Jasmine of the Palace of Eternal Light. Do you still remember her?

A little Captain. It's been ages since we last spoke of her.

Yes. It's because our time is already over. This lady doll down below is the reason why we are here. Her arrival awakened us. My concern now is that others who have been stirred from their eternal sleep will be looking for her as well.

Are you referring to Mumrah and the Starjammers?

Yes and there are many others. I will now send an encrypted message to the base.

For what Captain?

I will seek permission from the council to have first contact. It's been a very long time since we spoke to a doll and I would need the elders' guidance so I can handle things without provoking anyone.

---

This tortoise is one of the few objects that survived the ravages of time. It is a memory upon itself. The boy who owns this puzzle toy is now the Omniscience of Jomania.

And this artifact is all that remains of his earliest childhood.

Muñeca Emisaria

Greetings my lady, welcome to the realm of Jomania. My name is Mugenbear, the heart and soul of this place.

My name is Darkstar, the protector of the pristine wilderness of this kingdom.

And they call me Pulsar the Pink. Hyuk.. Hyuk.. I am the one who keeps the balance in this fair land. How may we assist you?

Great tidings my lords. My name is Qiki, the beautiful and voluptuous ambassadress from a land far far away. I have come bearing good intentions from the omnipresent one, Master Neil of the great nation of Camhalla.

In behalf of all that is left of Jomania, we acknowledge your most esteemed one, Ambassadress Qiki. Hyuk.. Hyuk..

Thank you. Your graciousness will be noted in the annals of Camhalla. Anyway, lets get down to business shall we?

The guardians of Jomania are listening my lady.

Great. I have heard that this land is a home to dolls like me. Whispers tell of a princess who keeps the harmony in this place a long time ago. I do not know what happened and nobody in Camhalla knows your land's legends. Is it possible to seek their audience?

... [silence]

You speak of folktales ambassadress. Hyuk.. Hyuk.. We do not know of such dolls. If they have ever existed, then they have preceded us by eons.

Only the three of us remain in this place, but yes, whispers tell of a world they call Grenesia. The land was blessed with life. Unfortunately, tiny nation-states battle for supremacy in that realm. They set up fortresses and kingdoms perched on top of the hills or deep inside the caves. Legends tell that some of these tribes were gifted with exceptional talents that they can make objects fly. We do not know how such powers exist, but it is what the folktales reveal.

Interesting. We never know of such people in Camhalla. Is there a way I can reach out to them?

We do not think it is possible my lady. Grenasia is a world far different from the realm of Jomania. However, we do believe that some of the tribes have survived the war and the ones left are resting deep beneath this land of serenity. We leave you to explore this place. Maybe, just maybe, your presence might awaken them again.

Thank you very much. I have more questions...

Alas, our time has come to leave. Seek and you will find. May the infinite wisdom of this land guide you in your quest. Goodbye Qiki.

Wait... Don't leave me alone please!!

Heaven's, they left.

... Crush ko nga yata si Yael

The Blog Wars

"In reality, a person is impressed with what other people is doing passionately, whether that is a fascination with mountain hiking or blogging.

And here comes kariran.

Sa pagkaintindi ko, kariran is when a person, say a reader, approaches a blogger and try to make his move.

Because he likes the blogger.

That’s it, ‘he likes the blogger.’ No effing bullshit about it. Why not try it. After all, both of them are human.

The reader finds the blogger hot, intelligent, a good listener, smart, a keep.

From the blogs, connection grows to YM or Friendster and exchange of numbers."

eto na ang Kariran sa Blog! … pwamis!! ill be gentle… hehehe
Outside Looking In

---

These wars happened right under our noses and for the most part, we were never aware that such battlefronts exist. Their names, coined from some global brands which they represent by the media somehow slipped through the mainstream consciousness and are now the leading market forces today.

Here are five examples of these so-called wars. Unfortunately, it doesn't include the wildly popular "Wild Stray - Commuter" blog skirmish that some of us had witnessed a few days ago. Sayang!

1. The Cola Wars

Was a campaign of mutually-targeted television advertisements and marketing campaigns in the 1980s and 1990s between soft drink manufacturers The Coca-Cola Company and PepsiCo.

Pepsi and Coca-Cola had/have different brands of soda competing with each other:

Pepsi-Cola vs Coca-Cola
Diet Pepsi vs Diet Coke
Pepsi Max vs Coke Zero
7-Up vs Sprite
Gatorade vs Powerade
Mirinda vs Fanta

2. The Great Toyota War

The Toyota War is the name commonly given to the last phase of the Chadian-Libyan conflict, which took place in 1987 in Northern Chad and on the Libyan-Chadian border. It takes its name from the Toyota pickup trucks used as technicals to provide mobility for the Chadian troops as they fought against the Libyans. The 1987 war resulted in a heavy defeat for Libya, which, according to American sources, lost one tenth of its army, with 7,500 troops killed and 1.5 billion dollars worth of military equipment destroyed or captured

3. Pubic Wars

Pubic Wars, a pun on the Punic Wars, is the name given to the rivalry between the pornographic magazines Playboy and Penthouse during the 1960s and 1970s. Each magazine strove to show just a little bit more than the other, without crossing the "line of decency" generally accepted at the time

In the 1950s it was generally agreed that nude photographs were not pornographic unless they showed pubic hair or, even worse, genitals. Respectable photography was careful to come close to, but not cross over, this line.

Penthouse published pictorials featuring visible female pubic hair almost from its inception in 1965. Playboy, however, showed a first slight glimpse of any pubic hair on Melodye Prentiss' centerfold (Miss July 1968), some 15 years after the magazine's introduction. With Playmates it was usually the case that the pubic area would be obscured by an item of clothing, a leg, or a piece of furniture. The first appearance of pubic hair in Playboy actually occurred in August 1969 in a pictorial featuring dancer/actress Paula Kelly. A few more glimpses of pubic hair appeared in some pictorials and centerfolds, but it wasn't until January 1971 when Liv Lindeland showed clearly visible pubic hair in her pictorial. The first Playmate to clearly have the first full frontal nude centerfold was Miss January 1972, Marilyn Cole. Incidentally, they both went on to become Playmate of the Year, respectively 1972 & 1973.

Eventually, the two magazines would move their content in opposite directions. Playboy positioned itself as the less explicit softcore alternative to be "read for the articles". Penthouse gravitated towards raunchier images, ultimately arriving at hardcore pornography and photographs of women urinating, in the late 1990s. Under new ownership in 2005, Penthouse began to steer toward a more softcore direction as well.

4. iWar

Is the term used by NATO to describe a form of Internet-based warfare.

iWar is distinct from what the United States calls cyber war or from what China calls informationalized war. These refer to sensitive military and critical infrastructure assets, and to battlefield communications and satellite intelligence. Rather, iWar refers to attacks carried out over the Internet that target the consumer Internet infrastructure, such as the websites providing access to online services.

iWar is conducted by a denial-of-service attack, which bombards a high volume of information requests to overwhelm a computer or networking system on the Internet.

5. Browser Wars

The term "browser wars" refers to the competition for dominance in the web browser marketplace. The term is used to denote two specific periods of time: the competition between market-dominating Netscape Navigator and its eventual defeat by Microsoft Internet Explorer during the late 1990s, and the competition between the dominating Internet Explorer and several emerging browsers that has gone on since 2003, most notably including Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Opera and, in late 2008, Google Chrome.

Hunger For Humanity

Apocalypto

History tells that every great empire crumbles from within. Rome was overran by the great hordes of Germania after a string of incompetent emperors failed to secure its frontiers. Genghis Khan expanded his borders too quickly, his death triggers internal divisions that lead to his empire's decline. Great Britain, once dubbed as Invincible Britannia had an empire that spanned a quarter of the world's land area. Two global wars and a new world order later and it was forced to cede its colonial possessions back to its original inhabitants.

Time conquers immortality and in the words of Will Durant, "A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within."

Apocalypto is an epic film set in the jungles of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula during the declining period of the Maya Civilization. It tells the story of Jaguar Paw, (Rudy Youngblood) a young tribesman whose village was attacked and burned to the ground by Mayan soldiers. Their aim is to capture as many villagers as possible, which are not subjects of the Maya empire. They are to be sold as slaves or for human sacrifices that are performed atop the Sun Pyramids at the heart of Mayan cities.

Jaguar Paw escapes death through some astronomical event that occurred the day he was about to become a Mayan human sacrifice. He must race back to his village in order to save his son and his pregnant wife who is trapped inside a cave that was suppose to serve as their place of refuge. Meanwhile, he must also evade the same Mayan Soldiers who destroyed his village earlier. Being chased through dense jungles and trackless swamps, Jaguar Paw and the remaining Mayan soldiers who survived the elements will discover at the end of the film that their petty squabbles prove meaningless in the face of a more serious threat: the arrival of their future masters from the West.

Apocalypto explores different subjects which include civilizations and the underlying reasons for their decline and the abuse of the environment. It also shows the contrast between a sophisticated society that relies on material wealth for satisfaction and a hunter-gatherer society that takes only what the community needs. A scene where a tribal elder sings of a legend about man's unyielding desire for resources struck a chord in me. The passage where the owl speaks "No. I saw a hole in the Man, deep like a hunger he will never fill. It is what makes him sad and what makes him want. He will go on taking and taking, until one day the World will say, 'I am no more and I have nothing left to give.'" reflects the current place of humanity in the world today.

The film is not for the faint of heart. When I watched it at 3 in the morning, my biggest fear is that the gory scenes where still-beating hearts are being pulled out from the body of a human sacrifice and decapitated heads rolling down the Sun Pyramid might be replayed in my head long after I fall asleep. There were also scenes were suspension of disbelief is necessary especially during the chasing moments. I will let you see for yourself these scenes so you will understand what I mean. As for me, human endurance in the face of a death-defying struggle is something I still need to appreciate.

Overall, I find the film deeply profound and very refreshing. Mel Gibson is truly an artist who explores themes that Hollywood rarely finds interesting. The use of the Maya Language enabled me to be immersed in Jaguar Paw's world like as if I am part of the time frame. Finally, the use of characters who serve as omen-givers gave depth and color to an action flick that deserves more recognition for recreating a Maya World that is close to its anthropological setting.

The film is alive and pulsating, and for that it deserves to be written.

Children's Hour

An Invitation:

Christmas Bells pealing joyfully from afar evoke sentiments of sharing. Christmas, after all is a time of giving.

The Batang Squatter is a Christmas sharing project that has humble beginnings. Faced with daunting tasks ahead and thousands of miles to bridge, time was definitely not on our side. However, the feeling of urgency and a clear sense of purpose pushed us to spread the spirit of giving and nurture it with the help of kind souls like you. In the midst of confusion, one thing was clear to us – to make a difference in the lives of children on Christmas Day in our own special way.

The project took off last December 2003 when the Dominion Church , a Christian sect, welcomed us to participate in the Christmas program they had organized for the children in Munoz market. The grateful smiles on the faces of these children we barely knew confirmed the joy that we felt in our hearts that indeed sharing is a blessing. When one person gives, it is not just to the one who receives who benefit but also the one who gives selflessly to make someone happy.

The Spirit goes where the wind blows and touches people’s hearts. And as the cliché goes: the rest is history.

From 2004 we have been bringing joy on Christmas Day to children and their families living outside the walls of Pilar Village in Las Pinas. We do this by distributing bags of goodies, raffle prizes, and providing them with snacks. Thanks to the continued generosity of our patrons who, much like the seed of kindness, have been growing in numbers through the years.

The Christmas of 2007 was the biggest in terms of donations that unexpectedly poured in - both cash and in kind. Some 1,000 children and their respective families were recipients of your generosity. If you want to have a copy of the video of the 2007 Batang Squatter: A Christmas Sharing celebration, please let us know. We would be pleased to send it to you in a CD.

The ‘ber’ season is upon us. One leaf is about to fall and two more to go before December greets us at our doorsteps with cool morning breeze and a warm breath of hope. With your kind indulgence, and in the name hundreds of squatter children in Pilar Village , we are knocking again on your hearts to share and participate with us in the 2008 Batang Squatter: A Christmas Sharing Project.

This year we are hoping to share the blessings with 1,000 children. The booty bags will consist of essential food items such as rice, canned goods and noodles. Of course Christmas for these kids will not be complete without the ice cream and fish ball treat during the day-long gift-giving activity.

We are now accepting cash donations until November 15. We can also arrange to pick up non-perishable goods within Manila and Cavite areas not later December 15.

On behalf of the mga Batang Squatter, we thank you for sharing with us your blessings.

Second to old ladies, children are my soft spots. You see them running in their polo and khaki shorts coming from school; you see them playing in the streets or pointing their finger at a toy that will never be theirs; you see them bright, hopeful and with so much promise ahead of them.

I have good memories of being a kid.

And knowing that I will never have one of my own, it has become my calling to support groups which bring happiness to them.

This is an invitation. Those who wish to join can send their e-mails in the comment box section below this entry (I will not post them, don't worry) so I can forward you the bank details.

Thanks to Tagabukid for involving me in this project.

Sana makasali rin kayo.
