Blood Choco Frenzy

Note: Here is an example of how a regular news article in a tabloid is transformed to a creative non-fiction essay after being tweaked by a student forced to do an assignment in class.

---

It all begins with a half-opened Nestle Crunch chocolate bar carelessly left by someone at the dining table. Ants were all over the bar, when Lydia Lago, the maid of the household found it there.

She could have thrown it in the trash bin immediately. However, having deprived of such little luxury as a young girl, she realized that the chocolate bar could still be eaten. It was her dream 40 years ago back in the far-flung province of Guimaras. With a huge family to support nowadays, a bar of chocolate will always be just a dream for her.

Taking the opportunity to enjoy such sheer pleasure of eating a bar of chocolate, she took the ant-strewn bar and cleaned it by putting over running water. Suddenly, the house owner's relative, who is just staying in for a vacation barged on the door to check what the maid is doing.

Linai Erasimo is suffering from a mental disability. She was recently released from an institution under medication. But on some unfortunate days, the innate urge returns to crank up her brain. Today is her most unfortunate moment, and for Lydia, who is not aware of Linai's serious psychological attack, she thought that things were still under normal circumstances. She in fact, gave way and avoided a confrontation with her the moment Linai starts spewing abusive words toward the maid.

However, Linai took this as a sign of provocation. She continued hurling sharp words toward Lydia, which the latter did not take seriously. She was accused of stealing the bar of chocolate and other perceived abuses done by the maid when her masters are not around.

As Lydia turned her back against the furious Linai, one look at a sharp knife beside the sink is all that it takes to get back at the maid who ignored her. She grabbed the knife and plunged it at the back of Lydia without any resistance from the maid. Ten stabs for a chocolate bar that is not theirs in the first place is what ends this story on a tragic note. As for the master's 11-year old daughter who left the chocolate in the table, her carelessness will surely give her a lesson she will remember for the rest of her life.
