Threat To Humanity

And Pope Benedict XVI said:

'This is not a simple social convention, but rather the fundamental cell of every society.
'Consequently, policies which undermine the family threaten human dignity and the future of humanity itself. The family unit is fundamental for the educational process and for the development both of individuals and states.
'Hence there is a need for policies which promote the family and aid social cohesion and dialogue.'

I cannot help but ask, is it possible for faith in the Almighty endure, without the need to anchor it on religion. Jesus Christ, in all His greatness decrees only one commandment - love one another as I have loved you.

In a time of greater perils, (such as wars, climate change, poverty and overpopulation) I cannot understand why Joseph Ratzinger would say that gay marriage is a bigger threat to humanity.

To family.

When will these priests learn that gays - because of their solitary, almost drifting existence - actually provide more for the family by means of extra sources of revenue, emotional support - especially to the unloved, and by giving up their privilege to create another human life, lessens the burden of a dying planet.

I know, because this is what my existence means to the world.

Sadly, bigots in robes remain.

My respect for the church leaders is rapidly dissolving.

that's the reason why i'm skeptic.

Jesus taught us one thing as you said

"love one another as i have loved you"

yun lang no other conditions nor restrictions pero bakit may mga iba pang patakaran silang ginawa?

There is a marked difference between being religious, and being spiritual. One The former dependent with the latter for legitimacy, the latter independent with the former.

Being devout should not mean blind obedience.

Who is to define what a family is? Certainly not Christ, as he himself is a member of a, let's say, non-traditional, household. The problem with religion is the grandstanding it assumes as being advocates of a "supposed" order. It is, after all, a human construct and a social mechanism, meant to put a system and an order to spirituality. But all constructs turn obsolescent. Because relevance and efficacy is never an absolute ideal, but relative to the zeitgeist of a society. I think prohibited drugs and substances, infidelity, and the loosening vigilance for education has more detrimental effects on the family than two men (or women) in love choosing to make their union official. (Although, I myself, do not entirely subscribe to gay marriage; for it is forcing something innately unique and forward and beautiful unto something that is obsolete, myopic and claustrophobic).

Now, I ask, is their position relevant and appropriate? Or a simple act of a slowly becoming irrelevant framework forcing its hegemony against a society that is becoming more and more individualistic and liberal?

The Pope is not the Church, that I am sure.

My standpoint right now might not agree with the arguments of pro gay marriage, but I believe in freedom of choice. I have questions where answers are still illusive. Like what would be accomplished if we allow gay marriage? Will it support the dying essence of marriage? Will it better the state? Will it better humanity? Stuffs like that.

.
But I'm no complete cynic. Maybe I'm still looking on a bad side of picture hence my inability to find answers.

that's why he was sent strong gust when he was doing his homily LOLz!

it's a bit disappointing that there are those who tend to resist change... or should I use the more rapid term, evolution? ☺

thanks for the likes of you, mugs, who express your disgust over people who do not matter but matter still.

apparently, we need to create that deluge to topple down institutions that destroy the very social fabric of our community.

Many centuries from now, if ever humanity survives the coming global catastrophe, a gay Catholic pope will issue an apology for the errors of his forebears.

Time is against Benedict XVI. This is their last stand Mama.

Brian:

Homosexuality has been around during the Greek ages. Men paired with one another, so are women. I can't understand why people now say "it's against nature" when same-sex animals too pair.

Desole Boy:

What I cannot understand really is why, of all the social ills facing humanity would the pope single out gay marriage as the most imminent threat of all?

Hindi ba niya naisip na maraming bading ang actually, pundasyon ng mga pamilya nila?

As for gay marriage - it's a non-issue. If they don't want to give sacrament to two men or women who are in love, that's their prerogative. It only shows how opposite their beliefs are with their teacher, Jesus.

In the history of mankind, it is always the Church who opposes what its founder had taught.

LDP:

I had to read exactly the words the pope said. So yun.

You're lucky, you're working in Norway. Hope you get a citizenship there.

Exactly. You hit the spot Red.

"a simple act of a slowly becoming irrelevant framework forcing its hegemony against a society that is becoming more and more individualistic and liberal?"

Exactly what I feel. This is a last ditch effort of an institution that had lost much of its credibility these days.

Jesus is God's creation. Religion is mans own invention. The church preaches of grace but it's another thing they practice

A part of me says, Jesus is a great teacher and God - the universal God is another existence. But then, my church tells of trinity, and it's hard to separate the two beliefs.

I agree though. The church leaders do not practice what their faith preach.

Actually, my friend, the Pope never mentioned anything about gay marriage in that speech. It was the reporters who used the term -- so who, really, is against what?

What the Church is saying is that, while gay people certainly may choose to commit to each other and form lifetime partnerships (note, however, that they did not say sexual partnerships), gay marriage is a contradiction in terms as marriage is defined as the union of a man and a woman.

It's like asking for brotherhood among women. It contradicts its very definition.

But nowhere and never did the Church forbid two men from forming permanent bonds.

Do not fall into the trap of believing the deception, anak, for the moment we fall into the lie, we slowly move into the side of the Liar, who has nothing but our worst intentions in mind.

The Church may be imperfect, but their intentions are clean.

While it is true that being religious is not the same as being spiritual, the spiritual man who separates himself from the church -- not just physically but entirely -- finds himself alone and more vulnerable to the lies of the devil.

Divide and conquer has always been a favorite method of the enemy.

You and I have been friends for some time, J. I could just keep quiet. But my heart would not let me.

It's really quite simple. If two people, regardless of gender, find that kind of connection it is nothing short of criminal and immoral to object to it. Love, and let the world love with you. It's about time.

I myself could not put my gayness the way you put it even if we serve the same "purpose" to our respective familie.

Then this popped to my mind just now, during last Sunday's mass, I uttered this prayer " Lord please give me more opportunities to succeed as an individual, give me wisdom and strength as a carry on with life and work...sana din po, tulungan nyo ako na madala ko ang parents ko sa mga lugar na napuntahan ko, maexperience ang mga magagandang experience na nakuha ko..then tears fell all of a sudden, it struck me.

Kudos Mugen :)
