To be honest, I haven't recovered yet from the mental shock I received two weeks ago. As to what it is, I'd leave the events a mystery until the dust finally settles. I've learned from it and have accepted my failures as they are. I also vow not to let others suffer the same fate, guilt, or even humiliation and leave the poor person without an inch of faith in himself. Meanwhile, I left this message on my Facebook wall to remind myself, and those who will get to read it that sometimes, kind words inspire people to do great things beyond everyone's expectations:
Many people tend to forget that sometimes, excellence comes when there are those who trust you, encourage you, make you feel that you can move mountains and sincerely appreciate your efforts. One thing I've learned lately is to praise people, make them feel that their accomplishments are big - not minding if its really small or ordinary - so that they'd always have faith in what they can achieve.
The world is full of hatred and deception. I too have stumbled many times over. But it doesn't matter, it is what makes us human. What's important is that despite hitting the ground, face-first, we are able to stand up and walk closer towards the right path.

i am supposed to write a lengthy comment kasi relate na relate ako sa isyung ito (in fact, di pa ako fully recovered, kahapon din lang nangyari) pero eto na lang, baka masyado ka lang affected. oo naman, laging ganun lalo't you are managing people. pero para mas maigsing comment:
divert focus to the top 10% and to the 80% on the middle ground. if this person belongs to the low 10%, you did your part.
and yes, lack of recognition and appreciation at work, not the monetary thing, is among the top reasons why employees are unhappy at work that results to eventual decline in performance or attrition(base sa workshop na naattendan ko. hehe)

im glad you are on your way towards becoming the mentor that you truly are.
ask anybody what competency a good boss should have and most will answer - the ability to nurture people. after all, we don't usually remember the perks or the pay when we talk about previous employers or superiors. we remember how we were treated.

As for the nurturing part, that I couldn't assess at the moment. Siguro when I have very clear comparisons.
Pero yeah, even in school, the best teachers we remember are the ones who nurtured us to the end.
During interviews when asked what motivates me the most, I have this standard answer
Recognition.
Oh and that thing about praising people, it does wonders.
Celebrate victories, big and small- my ops mgr told me after he approved my promotion. That was 9 years ago and I try to practice it up to this day.
i'm handling lots of people and i always make sure to give credit where credit is due. but i am also honest in giving feedback if i see something wrong. my NGO work has taught me to talk to people using the sandwich model, positive, negative, positive reinforcement.
Praising others once in a while can do wonders on motivating people you handle.That's what I learned and always try to do.
@Sir Mugen: i agree with bien.. a little pat on the back of a staff for a job well done could boost their his/her morale and contribute to the little and big successes..
shepherding of the flock.. one of the essential skills needed by a leader.. :)

a simple word of appreciation, like a casual tap on the shoulder of a subordinate by a higher-up for a job done, warms the soul and boosts the spirit.
this what separates THE leader from the leader.
i see you as a sensitive, compassionate and nurturing person who seize every opportunity to do acts of kindness to people around you including strangers.
ay yung boss ko, sobrang galing dito. ultimo pag sumagot kami ng email tapos detalyado email namin, magrereply siya ng "Well done." ang bibo tuloy naming lahat.
