Of The Gluttonic Kind

Family dinners has always been guided by virtues passed down from the early days of our forefathers. The cardinal rule strictly forbids leftovers on one's plate. Overindulgence is looked down and discouraged. At a very young age, we were taught to restrain ourselves and be considerate to those around us. Gluttony is a serious offense which exact a heavy price from the guilty. Lastly, the servants shall, and will always have a share of everything on the table. Expect the host of the banquet inviting all the yayas and drivers of each family present even if the dish laid out on the table includes Smoked Salmon, Paella or Rum Cake commissioned from a trusted chef.

These values remain the heart and pride of our upbringing. No wonder, it was cool with me when I was not able to get a slice of pizza I bought for the team last week. It is also the same behavior I reveal when people notice how clean my plate is after a meal. For this reason, I cannot understand how could the president of the country and her entourage could stomach dining in a fancy restaurant and footing a P1 million peso bill when more than half of their countrymen could not even get a decent meal for a day.

Have she and her Batasan dogs lost their minds and became so out of touch with their sensibilities that they could not understand why the nation is raising hell over of their tasteless Le Cirque feast?

MANILA, Philippines — The lawyer of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo lambasted the media for questioning the morality of her purportedly lavish dinner at a French restaurant in New York recently.

In a Palace briefing, lawyer Romulo Macalintal blew his top and said the media had no right to raise morality as an issue when they were accepting advertisements from politicians obviously violating the law against premature campaigning.

Hmp, i really think Gloria is a power-tripping, avaricious, and thieving bitch. I am so ashamed I even voted for her, she is turning out to be just like marcos, only she is more irritating and hypocritical. I am like you, I was also raised to finish all the food in my plate. I can't say anything about over-eating though since I really have a voracious appetite.

Charmedwishes: There's a huge difference between having a voracious appetite and someone who just gobbles anything merely for sheer pleasure.

Consider this: Someone orders a pizza, a huge one. Then that person would just consume half of it and then leave the leftovers to the mercy of the elements.

When cockroaches and flies invade the box, the consumer merely flings the box (and all its contents) to the bin and his problem is already resolved. That's gluttony for me.

As for Arroyo and company, its their sensibilities that they should recalibrate.

Imagine kakahiya. Ito pa iyong na highlight at hindi iyong pagbisita at pagkikita nila ni Obama.

Pwede naman kumain at gumastos ng tama, pero $20,000 naman.

i am just troubled with the behavior of these politicians. they already knew how critical and sensitive filipinos and philippine media right now but they still dont bother to watch over their lifestyles. they already knew that even how minute their mistake is, it could never escape from the public's eyes but they are still doing it.

another troubling reality is that there are a lot of hypocrites out there who keeps on mudslinging other people without even looking at themselves if they are also of the same skin.

as for the media, they CAN be as dirty as politics.

Gillboard: Ganun talaga. Pikon na rin ang palasyo. Puro batikos ba naman matanggap mo in one month eh. Ewan ko lang.

Xtian: Amerikano pa ang nakapansin ng kanilang kababuyan. Imagine that. Kahiya-hiya talaga.

Period: Exactly. Besides, lambasting Malacanang has become a profitable endeavor these days.

Trip: Like I said, shaming the president and her henchmen has become an uber profitable endeavor these days.

Media can always be corrupted, that is why we have a very "free" press.
